PURPOSE
The Network Specialist II coordinates and assists with all network related hardware and software as well as the organization of support services designed to facilitate the use of technology within the district for the staff and students.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Oversee the District's WAN\LAN infrastructure, voice and video networks, Internet Access, system wide services.
- Manages Mitel VOIP servers and voice equipment for district internal and external communications.
- Assist with network routing and switching design, implementation and management. Responsible for configuration and maintenance of Juniper switches and routers.
- Setup and design of additional LAN networks with the additional or new building of school sites and interconnection with existing fiber network.
- Monitoring of network resources and WAN\LAN links to ensure communications are available for the learning environments.
- Configuration, administration and troubleshooting of wireless network, currently Ruckus SmartZone controller and APs..
- Perform configuration, administration and troubleshooting of District Internet filter, firewall, and other network security devices and services
- Monitoring of new network technology and wireless advancements to help with instructional needs of buildings\staff\students.
- Explores and evaluates current developments and innovations in the fields of network hardware/software and WAN/LAN construction.
- Facilitates and encourages communication among the technicians, help desk staff and media specialists.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director and Infrastructure Division Coordinator of Technology Services.
Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or a combination of education or five years of related work experience.
- Strong working knowledge of Ethernet and TCP/IP design configurations for supporting network infrastructure for local, wide, and metropolitan area networks.
- Working knowledge of computer security issues and knowledge of security programs.
- Experience with wireless access point deployment and setup in a large enterprise environment.
- Knowledge of fiber connections and planning of LAN expansion of the network.
- Experience with enterprise routing and switching configurations.
- Minimum of three years Network Specialist I experience or equivalent.
- Strong communication and organization skills.
- Proficiency in use of computer applications and technical equipment as related to departmental functions and instructional support.
Preferred:
- Experience with Shoretel/Mitel on premise phone systems
- Experience with JunOS routing and switching
- Ruckus SmartZone administration and management
- Enterprise wifi troubleshooting and planning
- Experience with Fortinet firewall and FortiNAC configurations
- Experience with Internet filtering for schools

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position an employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear; The employee is frequently required to move about and use fingers and controls; The employee is occasionally required to reach, bend, and lift and carry up to fifty pounds; Close vision ability to look at a computer screen for long periods of time is required.
Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
Conditions and Environment: The work environment is frequently chaotic with many students and staff members present and speaking simultaneously.
