Summary/Objective
The Quality Technician shall provide support to Production Departments to improve processes and resolve technical issues in cooperation with Engineering, Manufacturing and Maintenance. The Quality Technician will also participate in Safety Programs, Quality Programs and Environmental Health Programs.
Essential Functions / Job Responsibilities:
Quality
- Inspect in-process (manufactured) components for conformity with Royston specifications.
- Inspect finished products with parts list, sample, model, and/or drawings.
- Work in all areas of the facility, including Purchasing, Fabrication, Finishing, and Shipping.
- Place quality holds on any/all items of non-compliance; assist with development of corrective actions.
- Interpret engineering drawings and confer with management and/or engineering staff to determine compliance with Royston standards.
- Select products for inspection at specific stages in production process; inspect mechanical/electrical function, appearance, fit, and finish as required.
- Operate diagnostic equipment needed to complete product inspections, including but not limited to degree squares, calipers, protractors, scales, mil gauges, electrical & mechanical test devices.
- Maintain fabrication/finishing/plant DPM measurements and drive corrective actions.
- Maintain, interpret, and present SPC data as required.
- Report to Manufacturing Manager to present and interpret plant quality performance.
Safety
- Collect safety audits from department leaders and maintain Audit Logs.
- Collect weekly safety meeting sign off sheets and maintain attendance logs.
- Perform weekly safety audits.
- Maintain calibration records.
- Maintain safety programs such as: Arc Flash, Confined Space, and Lock Out Tag Out.
Manufacturing
- Identify methods improvement through work place layout, machinery layout and material handling.
- Set up new equipment, ensuring satisfactory standards, training and operation.
- Assist in plant modifications by participating in Continuous Improvement activities such as Kaizen events, cycle-time studies, presenting layout and product flow options.
- Define and document clear written specifications and procedures to direct the manufacturing team in effective and efficient processes.
- Works closely with engineering to build manufacturability into designs.
- Assists production management team in determining efficient utilization of employees and equipment.
- Recommends methods for improving efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities.
Minimum Qualifications / Skills:
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Extremely detail-oriented
- In-depth knowledge of all Royston products, processes, and procedures
- Must possess or be willing to obtain quality accreditations/certification
- Associate's degree in a related field is preferred
Requirements:
- Previous quality control experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook required and MOVEX is preferred
- Ability to keep accurate and detailed records
- Ability to understand and implement Royston quality procedures and standards
- Excellent time-management skills with the ability to work independently with little supervision
- Close vision and peripheral vision
- Sitting and/or standing 4-6 hours
- Computer usage 4-6 hours
- Walking
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time nonexempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 4:30pm. This position occasionally requires long hours and weekend work.
