TECHNICIAN - EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE
POSITION SUMMARY
This position will support Goodwill Industries of San Antonio in maintaining all equipment, dock doors, trailers, and vehicles at our facilities. The Equipment Technician works with our Facilities Maintenance Team and is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance on material handling equipment (MHE). In addition, the technician may provide installation service for new or used equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain all large recycling operation equipment in satisfactory condition including, but not limited to balers, dock doors, dock equipment, compactors/pre-crusher, scissor lifts, pallet jacks, stackers, forklifts, carts/wheels/castors.
- Develop and execute an effective preventative maintenance program to minimize unscheduled downtime.
- Work with third party equipment repair contractors to schedule and monitor large repairs.
- Keep records on all repairs and maintenance provided by third party contractors.
- Maintain equipment, parts and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts and supplies; planning and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
- Fabricate, repair, weld and cut steel.
- Prepare mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends.
- Use hand tools, power tools and rigging equipment daily.
- Enhance safety program by following all Federal, State, OSHA and agency safety requirements; wear safety equipment; follow the use of chemicals and equipment according to the manufacturer's directions; attend required training.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems, including motors, phot eyes, limit switches, emergency stop systems, etc., as well as equipment hydraulics
- Identify and procure parts necessary to complete service or maintenance.
- Communicate clearly with management before, during and after the work is completed, answering questions and securing approval for work as needed. Complete and turn in all corresponding paperwork associated with each job, including work orders, customer forms, purchase orders, etc.
- Maintain company service vehicles including routine maintenance, managing truck supplies and overall cleanliness and upkeep.
- Accurate tracking of time and materials used on each work order is imperative.
- Comply with all occupational safety programs and procedures and maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Maintain regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.
REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent and (3-5) years' experience in all phases of industrial Equipment Maintenance. Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be accepted.
- Certificate from a college, technical school, or trade school preferred.
- Must have valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Experience with corrective and preventative maintenance on industrial or material handling equipment.
- Ability to work independently, with little supervision.
- Flexibility to work as a team player with other technicians, subcontractors or an installation crew.
- Ability to use computers and Windows-based software programs.
- Ability to write clearly and complete necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
