Duties and Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Technical Writer to support the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control's (NCIPC) Office of Communication. The Technical Writer will play a vital role in product development and clearance, ensuring that all materials adhere to NCIPC's style standards, including guidelines from the CDC Style and the AP Style Guide. This role requires exceptional editing skills, attention to detail, and a keen understanding of language mechanics.
The Technical Writer plays a crucial role in supporting the NCIPC Office of Communication's commitment to producing high-quality communication products that effectively convey public health messages and information. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to important public health initiatives and improve the clarity and impact of CDC communication materials.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review and edit a wide range of written materials for spelling and grammar errors to maintain the highest level of quality and professionalism in all communication products.
- Ensure that all communication products conform to NCIPC's style standards, which primarily draw from the CDC Style and the AP Style Guide, by applying consistent formatting and language usage.
- Carefully review content to flag areas of concern for further review and content refinement, offering suggestions and improvements as needed.
- Undertake additional writing and editing duties as assigned by the Office of Communication, including tasks related to content development, proofreading, and document preparation.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in technical writing, editing, or a related field, with a strong portfolio of edited materials that showcase exceptional attention to detail.
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communication, Journalism, or a related field.
- Proficiency in CDC Style, AP Style Guide, and other relevant style guides.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with government or public health organizations is a plus.
- Familiarity with document formatting and preparation tools.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a passion for linguistic precision.
Physical Requirements

If required, employees must be able to operate a motor vehicle which may require sitting for prolonged periods of time to visit other company sites. This position may require an employee to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb or balance, reach, push, and pull. The employee may also be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
