This position is based in Carlsbad, CA and is not open to remote.
**This position can be filled at the Specialist or Senior Specialist level depending on the qualifications of the top candidate.**
A Day in the Life
- Collaborate with cross-functional groups (Sustaining Engineering, Product Marketing, Sales, Services, Legal, Quality, and Regulatory) to create technical training programs, curricula, course materials and measurements that support operating unit strategies and are compliant with regulatory, quality systems, and Business Conduct Standards.
- Ensure timely updates to the course curricula to reflect changes in product design and market demands.
- Develop comprehensive training manuals, technical documents and course material for products.
- Deliver training material in a professional manner to both internal employees and customers.
- Develop training and instructional strategies and objectives.
- Drive innovative training methods including online modules and video tutorials.
- Plan, organize, lead and complete complex projects.
- Identify alternative operational and servicing solutions or approaches.
- Prepare instructor guides and train-the-trainer program on new/revised curricula and materials, on a global basis.
- Stay current on training and development industry research, (e.g. learning theory, motivation theory), and new methods and techniques.
- Work with administrative staff to develop agendas, certificates, tests and training scheduling requests.
- Demonstrate training effectiveness through systematic program evaluation and continuous improvement strategy.
- Provide timely evaluation and feedback to trainees and their managers/supervisors.
- Partner with Field Service Engineers (including job shadow) to understand manufacturing process to develop and maintain technical knowledge, system intricacies and troubleshooting skills.
- Manage all hardware, software, classroom and lab equipment logistics including device repair required to deliver service training either in classroom or onsite at a customer location (domestic or international).
- Other duties as needed. Travel approximately 10-20% (both domestic and international)
- Specialist level: minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, or advanced degree with 0 years of experience
or
- Senior Specialist level: minimum of 4 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, or advanced degree with 2 years of relevant experience.
Nice to Have
- 4+ years related technical training experience with medical products
- Biomedical engineering background or similar
- Experience working with medical devices
- Instructor certification and or the ability to develop and implement training strategies for products
- Experience with instructional theory and practices
- Comfortable presenting/facilitating, interacting with and leading large groups of adult, professional learners in both a classroom and social setting
- Ability to predict customer needs in the training environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel (pivot tables, v-lookup, data manipulation, multiple embedded formulas)
- Proficiency with Adobe Frame Maker
- Exhibit strong time management skills
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing requirements and priorities
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical issues in an easy to understand manner.
- Responsive problem solver and action oriented.
- Ability to work under general supervision with a high degree of technical and organizational competence.
- Ability to function well under pressure and expend effort to meet schedules and deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills
