Richardson Memorial Library's mission is to support research of the Museum's encyclopedic collection, its exhibitions, its programs, and to serve as a community resource for art research. The successful hire will be expected to help us fulfill our mission by managing and overseeing the Library's cataloging and Technical Services activities, both essential to user discovery and access.
This position offers a unique opportunity to oversee cataloging and preservation activities, manage the Library's electronic resources, and to facilitate the migration to a new Library Management System.
Summary: To manage and oversee the library's cataloging and Technical Services activities, including quality control of bibliographic records, cataloging materials in multiple formats, creating original MARC records, and maintaining electronic resources. To manage the library's processing and general preservation activities, liaise with relevant consortial and institutional teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Qualifications: Master's degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution and a minimum of two years post-MLIS library cataloging experience for the assistant level and a minimum of four years post-MLIS library cataloging experience for the associate level. Experience in the use and management of networked cataloging utilities, integrated library systems (ILS) or library management systems (LMS). Working knowledge of national cataloging standards; ability to catalog library materials in multiple languages and formats. Background in archaeology, material culture, museum studies or art history, experience performing fine arts reference services.
Additional Details:
Minimum of Range: Assistant Level: $21.71/hour. Associate Level: $50,792/annually.
Status: Regular full-time (37.5 hours/week)

- Managing key Technical Services areas as they pertain to automation, cataloging, electronic resources, and serials
- Establishing goals, developing processing workflows and procedures, preparing plans and projects, compiling statistics, and supporting the integration of new technologies
- Applying library cataloging standards and procedures according to current best practices. Providing original and complex cataloging of library materials in all languages and formats
- Employing strong knowledge of web-based applications for library resource management
- Contributing to inter-departmental and cross-divisional planning activities related to web-based content management systems, cataloging and metadata creation
- Liaising with MOBIUS consortium partners in matters pertaining to Technical Services and cataloging
- Managing life cycle of Library's electronic resources, communicating with vendors, and resolving access issues
- Overseeing collection maintenance activities, including physical processing, stacks maintenance, and preservation
- Providing skilled reference and Technical Services to staff and the general public
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Head Librarian
