Reporting to the Sr Manager, Technical Development, the Technical Development Representative plays an important role in the testing and development of crop input products prior to their commercialization by testing products several years prior to launch and then supporting them through launch. This position is responsible for precommercial product development for LPI as well as providing technical service / support to Nutrien Ag Solutions Divisions in the assigned geography. The Technical Development Representative will focus on facilitating pre-commercial applied field research, technical leadership on projects, and developing and transferring knowledge to the sales organization to ensure products are properly placed, positioned and used by growers, and will be responsible to perform the following duties:
What will you do:

  • Provide technical project leadership across the organization with a primary focus on LPI innovation, while collaborating with marketing, regulatory, legal, and operations.
  • Lead precommercial protocol development in alignment with specific LPI business objectives.
  • Establish and maintain an applied field research program with contract researchers or on-farm with retailers.
  • Validate, analyze, and summarize field research data with statistical and professional data summaries.
  • Convert data into marketing content, defining the placement, positioning, performance, and value.
  • Active technical leadership and guidance that supports scientifically sound business-based product advancement decisions.
  • Collaborate with retail agronomists for knowledge transfer and training for new products within LPI.
  • Monitor and assess 3rd party technologies that we ought to explore to fill portfolio gaps.
  • Distribute knowledge and ensure its availability for current and future users.
  • Assist in documentation and investigation of customer complaints for LPI products.
  • Lead and perform work the Nutrien Way - engaging in corporate, policies, programs and practices, including SH&E regulations and standards, to bring our Culture of Care to life
  • Perform other related duties, as required

What will you bring:
  • M.S. degree in agronomy, soil science, crop science, horticulture, plant pathology, entomology, weed science or related discipline required; experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Ph.D. in agronomy, soil science, crop science, horticulture, weed science, plant pathology, entomology or related discipline preferred.
  • 3+ years' experience required, preference is 5+ years, in experience in the agricultural industry with a field research or technical background.
  • Pest Control Advisor (PCA) license or Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) certification preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Demonstrated applied field research, technical education, and data management skills.
  • Proficient at reading research literature and field reports, developing field protocols, translating data/statistics into market related information.
  • Proven ability to influence, develop, and retain business relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, outstanding communication capabilities, and the ability to influence others at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work effectively with other groups in the organization to achieve a common goal.
  • Well-rounded knowledge of agricultural products and practices.
  • Highly self-motivated.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • The highest ethical standards and sense of accountability.
  • Strong computer skills (basic knowledge or ability to learn JMP, ARM, Excel, PPT, etc.)
  • Clear and effective decision making, with emphasis on data-driven approach
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively and seasonally (estimated to be 40%) with company vehicle provided. Must live within a 60-minute drive of a commercial airport for occasional air travel.
  • Must live in the region or be willing to relocate to the region. Company paid relocation to the region will be considered for highly qualified candidates.

Compensation & Benefits:
The estimated salary that Indeed, Glassdoor and LinkedIn suggested does not represent Nutrien's compensation structure.
Salary range is $90,400 to $135,600. This range is estimated for the Technical Development Representative in Texas. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan and long-term incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee. Details will be discussed through the application process.
