Responsibilities

 

River Vista Behavioral Health sits along the bluffs overlooking the San Joaquin River, this brand new, 128-bed facility, will provide high-quality and advanced behavioral health services to residents and visitors in the Central Valley.  The new hospital will employ more than 250 people, including clinicians, nurses, mental health technicians, support staff and administration. 

We are currently seeking a forward thinking and compassionate Pharmacy Technician to be part of our Pharmacy Team. The Pharmacy Technician, under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist or Consulting Pharmacist and within all regulatory rules governing pharmaceutical services, provides for complete pharmaceutical services to the facility.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Associates Degree in pharmaceutical sciences.

Experience:   A minimum of two (2) years hospital pharmaceutical experience is preferred.

Licensure:     Currently licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in California.

Additional Requirements: CPR certification and successful completion of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training.  CPI Training may be obtained during new hire orientation.  Incumbent may be required to work overtime and flexible hours. 

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS ARE CATEGORIZED UNDER THE JCAHO STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE.

Operational Functions:

  1. Appropriately fill and label all drug containers issued to service departments.
  2. Price medication records daily and appropriately charges patient records for pharmaceuticals used.
  3. Deliver new medications and pick up new treatment orders from each unit on a regular basis.
  4. Repackage unit dose medications for dispensing when the manufacturer does not provide unit dose packaging.
  5. Fill controlled substance counters for the nursing units.
  6. Check after hours unit dose back up logs and replace the stock after the order is verified by the pharmacist.
  7. Under direct pharmacist supervision, fill prescriptions for inpatients as requested.
  8. Place orders for medication, personal and central supply for outpatient items (when necessary) from designated vendors/wholesalers and utilize buying group information in selecting products.
  9. Perform nursing station inventories and replenishes the stock if needed on a regular basis.
  10. Check and price the merchandise received and is responsible for charging the facility.
  11. Coordinate the return of all outdated medications to the appropriate manufacturer or wholesaler.
  12. Make photo copies of all medication invoices for the Pharmacy department as required.
  13. Assist in all other distribution, procurement and clinical functions within the pharmacy.

14.Demonstrate appropriate judgment in communicating with physicians/licensed practitioner, nurses and other facility staff.


Qualifications

 

Teaching

  1. Participate in basic pharmacy orientation of new hospital staff and students.
  2. Function as a resource for pharmacy/medication related policies and procedures.
  3. Provide pharmaceutical information effectively to the medical and facility staff.

 

Safety

  1. Follow pharmacy department and facility safety and infection control policies and procedures.
  2. Follow facility fire, safety and disaster policies and procedures.

Patient Care Standards

  1. Ensure services provided adhere to specific Standards of Care of Child/Adolescent Patients ages 5 through 17.
  2. Ensure services provided adhere to specific Standards of Care of Adult Patients ages 18 through 64.
  3. Ensure services provided adhere to specific Standards of Care of Geriatric Patients ages 65 and older.

Additional Standards

  1. Adhere to facility, department, corporate, personnel and standard policies and procedures.
  2. Attend all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled.
  3. Adhere to facility standards concerning conduct, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  4. Support facility-wide quality/performance improvement goals and objectives.
  5. Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  8. Ability to answer and operate a telephone and paging system.
  9. Ability to operate and manipulate drug repacking tools and equipment such as a heat sealer, calculator, computer, microfiche, order transmitter, stamper, and typewriter.
  10. Ability to communicate effectively with all facility staff, patients and other health care and administrative personnel.
  11. Ability to respond to stat orders and emergency situations.
  12. Ability to work effectively and resolve problem situations.
  13. Ability to exercise good judgment in decision making.
  14. Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers.
  15. Ability to adhere to safety policies and procedures.
  16. Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information.
  17. Ability to work as a team player.
  18. Ability to demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience and dedication.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SPECIAL DEMANDS

  10. The ability to competently and fully perform Handle with Care techniques is an essential position function.
