About This Role:

The Center on Aging (COA), within the College of Health and Human Sciences, is currently seeking a 9-month Teaching Assistant/Associate Professorto join their team. This position will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses on campus and online. This non-tenure track position will report directly to the COA Interim Director.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach on-campus and/or online courses as required for the gerontology academic programs
  • Assist in planning, administration, and execution of the undergraduate and master's gerontology programs with fellow instructors
  • Recruit and mentor undergraduate and graduate students
  • Provide service to the program, unit, college, and university

This 9-month position at the rank of Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor has a preferred starting date of January 2024, with a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

We have well-known expertise in long-term care services and support, and we facilitate a nationally recognized person-centered care program for nursing homes for the state of Kansas (PEAK). The Center's academic programs encompass an undergraduate minor, secondary major, Master's degree, and graduate certificate. We also serve older Kansans and their families through community engagement and outreach and our aging services research projects. Our faculty and staff have existing partnerships with K-State Research and Extension programs, regional universities, the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services (KDADS), the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), various national long-term care organizations, and national research partnerships.

The College of Health and Human Sciences is home to six academic departments (Applied Human Sciences; Food, Nutrition, Dietetics & Health; Hospitality Management; Interior Design & Fashion Studies; Personal Financial Planning; and Kinesiology), the Center on Aging, Physician Assistant program, and a Nursing partnership with Wichita State University. The College enrolls more than 2,300 undergraduate and 400 graduate students and employs more than 115 full-time faculty members in teaching, research, and Extension positions (https://www.hhs.k-state.edu/). What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Earned master's degree (by start date) in gerontology or closely related field
  • Demonstrated content expertise to teach core classes in the gerontology program
  • Ability to work effectively with undergraduate and graduate students in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Commitment to the HHS mission: "In a world focused on things, we focus first on PEOPLE."

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching courses about aging
  • Experience working with older adults
  • Demonstrated ability to promote relationships with external partners and agencies

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
