About This Role:

The Department of Applied Human Sciences, within the College of Health and Human Sciences, is currently seeking a 9-month Assistant/Associate Professor (tenure track) or Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor (non-tenure track) in the area of peace and conflict studies to join the Conflict Resolution Program. Candidates with expertise and experience across areas of peace, conflict, and trauma studies with a specific focus in one or more of the following areas are preferred: conflict management, mediation, alternative dispute resolution, and/or interpersonal conflict resolution.

Responsibilities for either tenure track or non-tenure track include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Provide teaching/expertise as a state-approved mediator
  • Provide service to the program, department, college, and university
  • Tenure-track only: develop/maintain a productive research program in area of expertise

This 9-month position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor OR TeachingAssistant/Associate Professor has a preferred starting date of August 2024, with a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Conflict Resolution Program offers a range of academic options at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The Conflict Resolution Program boasts a unique combination of training in conflict resolution, peace studies, and trauma studies. The Conflict Analysis and Trauma Studies (CATS) minor was one of the first programs, nationally, to combine the study of conflict and trauma within one academic program. The Conflict Resolution Program is recognized as a State Approved Conflict Resolution Training Program, providing learners the initial training on the path towards becoming a State Approved mediator in Kansas.

TheDepartment of Applied Human Sciences consists of seven primary academic programs (Communication Sciences and Disorders, Conflict Resolution, Couple and Family Therapy, Early Childhood Education, Family and Consumer Sciences Education, Human Development and Family Science, and Integrative Human Sciences), as well as Cooperative Extension. The department is committed to conducting comprehensive research with a focus on well-being through multi-disciplinary collaborations; providing transformational educational experiences to students; and enhancing the well-being of individuals, families, and communities through engaged and collaborative research, teaching, and service that addresses the human needs and improves societal conditions.

The College of Health and Human Sciences is home to six academic departments (Applied Human Sciences; Food, Nutrition, Dietetics & Health; Hospitality Management; Interior Design & Fashion Studies; Personal Financial Planning; and Kinesiology), the Center on Aging, Physician Assistant program, and a Nursing partnership with Wichita State University. The College enrolls more than 2,300 undergraduate and 400 graduate students and employs more than 115 full-time faculty members in teaching, research, and Extension positions (https://www.hhs.k-state.edu/). What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Peace and Conflict Studies, Conflict Management, Conflict Resolution, or a closely related field (ABD considered with a Ph.D. completion date of August 2025)
  • Capable instructor for undergraduate and graduate courses
  • Ability to mentor and develop undergraduate and graduate students in academic and professional settings
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration and inter-professional education opportunities
  • Ability to become a State Approved Mediator through the Kansas Supreme Court and Office of Judicial Administration
  • Tenure-track only: the ability to conduct an active program of research in areas of expertise, publish, and seek external funding

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Record of research activity, publications, and external funding in area of expertise
  • Experience with diverse populations and/or evidence of cultural competence
  • Ability to become a State Approved Mentor Mediator in the State of Kansas

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
