Teacher/Tutor - Palm Glades Preparatory Academy

Job Responsibilities:

• Responsible for academic support activities, which can be structured and delivered in many different formats that fit the needs of the grade levels and youth being served. Some examples may include core subject tutoring, SAT/ACT or FAST test preparation, project-based learning as part of enrichment activities that incorporate reading, writing and mathematics (Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry). Program activities may require in-person or online service provision.
• Provide high quality academic support activities that focus on reading, writing and mathematics for middle school youth in fun and engaging ways.
• Assist students in creating academic and career goals and follow up to ensure students are on track.
• Link the enriched academic activities and curriculum to Florida State Standards.
• Encourage participants to regularly attend the program to achieve their individual academic goals.
• Provide communication relating to student academics to the person(s) indicated by the Site Supervisor.
• For students below grade level, assign additional support activities and supplements.
• Train site staff on ways to improve student academic skills, as needed.
• Attend staff meetings and training(s) as required by Site Supervisor and Funder.
• Recommend adjustments to the program as needed to aid with continuous quality improvement (CQI).
• Address any youth behavior challenges according to our Policies and Procedures.
• Help make reasonable accommodations for any youth with disabilities.
• Submit bi-weekly payment documents with recorded hours to Site Supervisor(s).
• Sign-in/sign-out on the weekly log at the program site.
• Complete any required training before the deadline (as provided by the onboarding process or your direct supervisor upon hire)
• Other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications: 

• English language is required (can read, write and speak fluently).
• A. degree in Education or similar field and/or Florida teaching certification.

 Other helpful qualifications:

• Bi-Lingual (Spanish or Creole).
• Certification or training for children with special needs.
• Ability to work with a diverse team.
• Ability to teach middle school level math, reading, science or writing.
• Minimum intermediate computer level

 Requirements:

• Clearance on BCPS Level II Background screening.
• Wear the Be Strong T- shirts during program hours and follow Be Strong Int’l dress code.
• Contact your supervisor by text or call as soon as possible if you are running late or will miss work.
• Use of cell phone during working hours is not permitted unless it is an emergency or work related, as per Supervisor’s instructions.

 Physical Demands:

This position is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, speak, and hear. The Site Instructor must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable otherwise qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
