Teacher - Junior Cadet Corps (JCC) - Military Instructor 2023-2024 Pool 
Reports to: Coordinator - Junior Cadet Corps
 
Pay Grade: Teacher Salary Schedule
Duty Days: 187
Position Purpose
Delivers rigorous instruction to secondary level cadets using the military service's national education curriculum and program requirements.  Assists with the preparation, coordination, and supervision of all co-curricular service learning, special activities, or JCC events (such as military ball, drill meets, honor guards, and other extra-curricular activities).
 
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
 
Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment
  • Instructs military directed subject materials in classroom and laboratory environment.
  • Implements the national curriculum, lesson plans, extra-curricular curriculum activities, and objectives with other content areas in order to provide for transfer of learning and knowledge.
  • Administers, advises, and appraises extra-curricular teams (i.e., drill, physical training, and academic challenge).
  • Develops and administers curriculum consistent with District goals and objectives, including thematic units and other projects to provide for extended interaction and creativity.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials; translates lesson plans into optimal learning experiences to capitalize on available instruction time.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to District policies; establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Assesses, evaluates, and documents student progress and growth, through formal and informal evaluation procedures; determines materials and strategies to provide for their needs.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs.
 
Administrative & Supportive
  • Counsels, mentors, and tutors cadets as needed.
  • Determines and leads cadets who serve in key leadership positions (i.e., command and staff).
  • Coordinates, compiles, and updates data to records in the automated cadet database.
  • Manages and submits all reports required by the Army and the District.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education; ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Maintains communication and coordination with school faculty and staff to promote cadet involvement in school activities, cadet recruitment, and retention.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by District procedures and applicable laws.
 
Professional Learning Community
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members to evaluate and assess curricula, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment; maintains inventory records.
  • Attends and participates in school events during and outside of regular school hours.
 
Safety
  • Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to appropriate parties.

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning differences.
  • Knowledge of assigned content facts, concepts, theories, and principles that are being taught.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Knowledge of current height and weight standards as outlined in respective branch of service in accordance with Military Regulations.
  • Knowledge of military standards for maintaining personal fitness as outlined in respective branch of service in accordance with Military Regulations.
  • Knowledge of personal grooming standards as outlined in respective branch of service in accordance with Military Regulations.
  • Skill at the entry-level college level, in writing, speaking, and interpersonal communication skills, including principles of English and grammar usage.
  • Skill in working with initiatives that require collaboration with District and outside agencies and organizations.
  • Ability to occasionally experience up to 18 hours of sleep deprivation involving driving and supervision of students for outdoor adventure, service learning, and leadership and character development.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.
  • Ability to provide information and assist office personnel, parents, and students related to District programs and activities.
  • Ability to work effectively in collaborative teams.
  • Ability to effectively conference with teachers, parents, and students.
  • Ability to use software to access databases, email, create spreadsheets, and do word processing.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written forms.

Travel Requirements
  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Tools/Equipment Used:  Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; standard school instructional equipment; standard military instructional equipment related to drills, exercises, and armory.
  • Posture:  Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion:  Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; frequent walking and extensive marching; frequent leading of fitness training, walking, running, and jumping.
  • Lifting:  Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 20 pounds); occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over).
  • Exerting:  Frequently exerts 10-25 pounds of force to move objects; occasionally exerts 20-70 pounds of force.
  • Environment:  Works in an instructional setting  (inside 60% and outside 40%); exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather; exposure to safety risks in outdoor adventure training including rappelling, heights over 34 feet, negotiating obstacles, and orienteering; exposure to substandard housing/barracks/hygiene, and personal health and safety risk conditions; requires occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours, including attendance at events and/or meetings with parents and staff after working hours; frequently speaking, listening, and hearing; regular exposure to loud sounds; frequent voice projection.
  • Attendance:  Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position; requires occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Mental Demands:  Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions; occasionally experiences up to 18 hours of sleep deprivation involving driving and supervision of students for outdoor adventure, service learning, and leadership and character development.
  • Military Standards: 
    • Leading and supervising parades requiring extensive marching and voice projection;
    • Maintaining personal fitness according to military standards; leading fitness training, walking, running, and jumping;
    • Occasional exposure to safety risks in outdoor adventure training including rappelling, heights over 34 feet, negotiating obstacles, and orienteering;
    • Occasionally requires up to 18 hours of sleep deprivation involving driving and supervision of students for outdoor adventure, service learning, and leadership and character development.
 
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Education:  Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
 
  • Certification/License: 
    • Valid Texas Teaching Certification;
    • If applicant does not have a teacher certification then he/she must enroll in Education Career Alternative Program (ECAP) and pass the Texas Teacher Certification within 1 year of employment in the content area of physical education (Content Test & Pedagogy Responsibility Exam).
    • Clear and valid Texas Driver's License;
    • Insurable by the District's insurance carrier.
 
  • Experience: Some military service (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Navy, Marines, Space Force).
  • Language:  Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred in some settings.
  • Additional Requirements: 
    • Wear the Military uniform and meet personal grooming standards as outlined in Military Regulation;
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication/staff, and automation technology skills.
 
INSURABILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL DRIVERS
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • NO positive drug or alcohol tests including pre-employment, random, post-accident or reasonable suspicion.
  • Driving and accident record:
Valid Texas Department of Public Safety Driver Record Check Type 3A-Certified list of all crashes and violations http://dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/driverrecords.htm
  • NO more than 2 violations during previous 36 months including:
    • moving traffic violations (including no more than 1 preventable accident);
    • failure to provide proof of valid driver's license or proof of insurance;
    • equipment violations.
  • NO Driving Under the Influence (DUI) for drug or alcohol.
  • NO leaving scene of an accident (bodily injury or physical damage).
  • NO vehicular assault, manslaughter, or homicide.
  • NO operating a vehicle with suspended or revoked driver's license.
  • NO reckless driving, speed contests, drag racing, or highway racing.
  • NO use of a vehicle in commission of a felony.
  • NO operating a vehicle without owner's permission (unauthorized use or grand theft).
  • NO permitting an unlicensed person to drive.
  • NO speeding more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit.
  • NO history of a conviction in a commercial or personal motor vehicle.
  • Additional restrictions may apply if directed by FWISD's Fleet Insurance Carrier.
