Job Description
Teacher for Students who areDeaf or Hard of Hearing provides instruction and support in adaptive reading, math, and other skills and techniques specific to students with hearing impairments in member school districts. The teacher also collaborates with classroom teachers to ensure student access to learning.
Purpose
● To provide diagnostic and intervention services for Students who qualify under Deaf and Hard of Hearing in cooperation with appropriate district supervisors, teachers, parents and students.
Preferred Experience
● Skilled in basic computer operations – Word, spreadsheets, internet use, and data management. Including but not limited to Google platforms
Qualifications
● Must hold valid license with IDOE: Deaf/Hard of Hearing
● This position requires an active driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel locally
Essential Functions
Purposeful Planning And Preparation
● Develop, revise, and monitor the IEP’s for Students with eligibility for Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
● Collaborate with schools and families to ensure all student goals are met.
● Hold high standards for student achievement.
● Collaborate with other professionals in providing services to students
● Maintain scheduled consultation and collaboration with teachers appropriate for the student’s IEP
● Ensure each students’ IEP is accessible to all staff responsible for implementation of the individualized education
● Communicate the requirements of the student’s IEP in a manner that all professionals and paraprofessionals involved with individual students understand their responsibilities
● Act as a consultant to promote and enhance access of education for Students
● Submit required information for local, state, and federal reports
● Regularly apprise parents of individual student’s progress
● Ensure any accommodations on statewide and district assessments are implemented according to the student’s IEP
● Consult with audiologists on audiograms, assistive technology, and other hearing issues
● Troubleshoot and provide technical support on assistive technology equipment
● Provide teachers and paraprofessionals training on the use of the assistive technology and appropriate teaching strategies
● Attend training to update knowledge on new technology and best practices for teaching students regardless of the mode of communication or hearing devices
● Attend required meetings and school related activities
Effective Instruction, Treatment And/Or Instructional Support
● Provide instruction to reteach/reinforce the classroom curriculum
● Conduct assessments to determine eligibility for service
● Evaluate and recommend assistive technology
Leadership And Professional Responsibilities
● Maintain a well documented file for each student
● Keep records on all equipment that is purchased by Earlywood (serial numbers,
● location of device, etc..)
● Coordinate the maintenance of equipment.

● Must demonstrate a pattern of consistent attendance and on-time arrivals and departures to work and all related functions.
● Must follow all local, state, & Federal laws related to school and the community and follow all locally established policies and procedures and maintain appropriate credentialing.
● Must interact with students, colleagues, administrators, parents/families and community members in a respectful manner.
● Must exhibit behavior in accordance with the established Earlywood Educational Evaluation System (“EES”) code of conduct and performs the function of the job in an ethical manner
Work Environment
● The work environment is fast-paced with minimal to high noise levels.
● This position requires working independently as well as part of a team.
● This position requires verbal and in person contact with others on a daily basis.
● This position has core hours of M-F from 8-4:00 pm.
