Description
Family Star is currently seeking an Assistant Teacher at our Northeast Denver location. If you want to make a difference in the lives of some of Denver's most vulnerable population, Family Star is the place for you!
This position requires a warm friendly personality with the ability to be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others. In addition, this person must have the ability to relate well with children and adults.
Assisting TeacherMajor Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Interact with children in an open, honest, and loving manner, always with dignity and respect.
• Respectfully, courteously, and professionally include families in our Montessori environment and actively encourage and support family participation in program activities.
• Calmly and efficiently assist in planning and implementing weekly lesson plans and individualized curriculums. in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the school.
• Monitor for safety indoors and outdoors to ensure adults are positioned and spaced so that all children are safe.
• Respond calmly and efficiently during emergencies. Report any accident at once to the appropriate supervisor, complete incident accident report immediately and follow-up with appropriate health procedures.
• Maintain and assist in daily maintenance and cleaning of the educational environment.
• Assist in completing all child-related paperwork on a daily basis.
• Share the responsibility of food preparation for breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack.
• Keep the environment in order: clean, supplied and in good repair, and assist in rotating classroom materials on a regular basis.
• Ensure that trained staff member properly administers medications.
• Assist in following classroom toileting procedures, changing children as necessary.
• Include families in Montessori environment and actively encourage and support family participation in program activities.
• Communicate with Family Services and Health Services to help families gain access to community resources and receive needed support.
• Implement changes requested by supervisor in a timely manner.
• Be flexible to assist in other classrooms as needed and take direction from other classroom staff. Work closely with sister classroom to share responsibilities, including staffing.
• Take direction from the Director/Lead Teacher and from Group Leader/Teacher when the Director/Lead Teacher is not available.
• Follow policies regarding sick or injured children. Prepare written accident/injury reports, follow-up with parents, administration etc.
• Attend and participate in all scheduled staff meetings, parent night meetings, in-service trainings, and in-service training weeks.
• Participate in weekly In-Room Staff Meeting and come prepared with input and ideas.
• Demonstrate creativity in finding new and better ways to do things and seek to improve the program.
• Assist in public relations events involving the school.
• Demonstrate proper judgment and decision-making skills regularly and in crisis.
• Write a professional development plan yearly.
• Maintain and update Personnel File with Mentor or Education Coordinator.
• Participate in recommended training programs, educational conferences, and other courses pertinent to professional growth.
• Maintain confidentiality with families and staff.
• Be punctual with regular attendance; follow call in procedure when sick or in emergency. Turn in request for time off, no later than five working days in advance.
• Maintain positive work attitude, share information with appropriate persons or supervisors.
• Follow ALL policies as outlined in Employee Handbook.
Requirements
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Must obtain a CDA within one (1) year of hire.
- Must obtain Food Handler's Certifications within the initial review period.
- Experience and commitment to working with children and families of diverse populations.
- Must be motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Must demonstrate a positive attitude with a commitment to customer service.
- Must have oral and written proficiency in the English language.
- Must be able to work the hours of the position based on the organization's needs.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must have current Infant/Child CPR, First Aid, Universal Precautions, or they must be obtained within the initial review period.
- Must complete clearance of a background check, post-offer, and pre-employment physical.
