Teacher Aide - Hs

Description:SUMMARY:
To share in the planning and implementation of daily activities for the children; to perform other job related tasks as requested by the Teacher, Education Supervisor and/or Program Manager; to assume full responsibility of the classroom in the absence of the teacher. This position directly relates to teaching, learning and direct child care and supervision of children as it relates to Head Start Performance Standards, childcare standards and state licensing.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in training new personnel.
• Assist with weekly planning and implementation of activities for children (ex: meals, field trips, rest-time, etc.).
• Assist teacher in taking small groups of children for specific activities.
• Interchange duties at the request of the Education Supervisor or Program Manager.
• Actively supervise the children during meals and return with them to their assigned classroom.
• Assist the teacher with children in the restroom and during tooth brushing.
• Help to make the children comfortable using soothing techniques, i.e., rocking, rubbing of the back or head, whichever a child prefers.
• Prepare the learning centers and other collaborative work as directed by the Lead Teacher.
• Assists Lead Teacher with daily cleanliness, aesthetic appearance, safety and organization of the classroom and restroom to ensure an environment that is conducive to learning.
• Ensure that the outside playground is free of hazardous materials before allowing children on the playground.
• Actively supervise all indoor and outdoor activities.
• Attend meetings as required; attend conferences with supervisor and/or manager as requested.
• Maintain contact and communication with parents of children in assigned classroom as appropriate.
• Responsible for accurate, complete and timely collection and submission of participant information for inclusion in ChildPlus.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:SKILLS AND EXPECTATIONS:

• Understands and applies child development and appropriate activities from infancy to age three
• Understands and applies the basics of center-based day care regulations (Kids Are Worth It)
• Able to apply knowledge of children’s nutrition, health, and first aid
• Possesses a warm personality and willingness to respond to infants' and children’s needs in a manner that fosters emotional growth and development
• Ability to communicate effectively with participants, staff, and parents
• Understands the dynamics of poverty, oppression, sexism, racism, ageism and other forms of societal and individual prejudice that confront people today
• Ability to work effectively and respectfully with people from diverse cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds
• Ability to engage and motivate program participants to develop and increase independence.
• Ability to advocate on behalf of program participants
• Demonstrates a philosophy and value base consistent with the purpose and goals of Clover, utilizing a strengths and empowerment perspective and working towards increasing the capacities of program participants and their families.
• Ability to work holistically, as part of a team, with staff, program participants and their families, volunteers and the community at-large towards successful outcomes for program participants.
• Respect for the integrity of each program participant, their right to privacy and confidentiality and their right to participate to their maximum capacity in determining their participation in our programs, including the formation of a case or treatment service plan.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Pediatric First Aid and Infant/Child CPR certification.
• Maintains confidentiality with respect to personnel and proprietary agency information
• Able to meet deadlines, well organized, and able to work under pressure of multiple deadlines; demonstrates flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload.
• Acts as a role model within and outside of the agency.
• Adheres to agency policies and procedures.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• HS or GED required.

EXPERIENCE:
One year previous experience working with children in a childcare setting
REPORTS:

• LAP Profile, Denver, Weekly Lesson Plans; Monthly Goals and Objectives, Monthly participant progress reports, Daily Observations, and Anecdotal Notes, Weekly Units of Service, Incident/Accident Form, Arrival and Departure Form, Point of Meal Service Form, Contact Log, Dental Log

PLANNING:

• Monthly program summaries, Transition Exercise, field trips and outside recreational activities; in-service trainings; special events and holidays

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.90 - $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
