Tax Counselor - Part-Time

Primary Job Objective: The Tax Counselor will be responsible for successfully expanding SC Thrive services, focusing on the web-based tax service, brand, and awareness in assigned counties and will assist statewide as needed. The Tax Counselor will support current tax sites, recruit new tax volunteers, assist with SC Thrive initiatives and grants, market the tax service, create outreach opportunities, and become an SC Thrive benefits and Tax Counselor.

** Candidate must reside in the Low Country region of South Carolina. **

Organizational Relationships: Works in the Partner Engagement Department

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:

• Become a trained SC Thrive counselor
• Perform client intake interviews and assist clients with completing applications, tax returns and other trainings and resources
• Learn to successfully navigate and utilize the SC Thrive web-based service
• Maintain client confidentiality at all times
• Assist tax clients on how to invest/save tax refunds through financial wellness education
• Educate qualified low-income residents about availability of Earned Income Tax Credit and other tax credits
• Increase awareness of financial education resources and other potential benefits and resources
• Coordinate outreach efforts and promote SC Thrive benefits and tax resources
• Willingness to work flexible hours including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends
• Other duties, as requested

Performance Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's or Associate Degree or commensurate experience
• Job Experience/Skills/Certifications:
• 1 year of tax experience nice to have but not required
• Demonstrate excellent proficiency in using integrated technology systems
• Possesses strong technical skills
• Demonstrated desire and ability to work with people from various socioeconomic backgrounds
• Excellent communicator
• Excellent organizational skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Employs active listening skills and reflexive response techniques
• Demonstrates strong attention to detail, problem solving, analytical and organizational skills
• Is enthusiastic and has a positive attitude toward helping others
• Displays ability to work cooperatively in a team environment and be a self-starter
• Travel Requirements: Must have a valid driver's license, required insurance, reliable transportation and ability to travel to work sites in and outside of South Carolina
