JOB SUMMARY: MVS is seeking a highly motivated Systems Engineer to provide engineering support to the NOAA/NASA ground system at the NOAA Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF) in Suitland, Maryland. The EMOC will be responsible for understanding and operating the ground system to include Space/Ground links, Ground Station support equipment, Data transport systems, all ground software, hardware and architecture, interfaces. The EMOC is one of two primary crew operators at the control center. The EMOC also reacts to all ground equipment problems/anomalies to restore mission capability. The position is staffed 24/7 and ability to work shift work is required. Location: NOAA Satellite Operations Facility in Suitland, MD.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Write shift reports, as necessary
- Coordinate with Mission Planner for specialized activities.
- Coordinate deviations from planned operations as well as anomaly responses or diagnostic mode.
- Write, track, and report Incident Report.
- Maintain and validate shift logs.
- Coordinate support and system resources.
- Create and maintain Ground Ops Products (PROCs, etc.) as required.
- Contribute to the production of Standard Operations Procedures and will be assigned products to write/create/validate.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to understand systems level engineering requirements and drawings.
- Good communicator capable of working in a multi-disciplinary team of technologists as well as on an independent and self-directed basis.
- Must demonstrate solid judgment in evaluation, selection, and adaptation and/or modification of methodologies and tools.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience and knowledge of complex, distributed ground systems to include satellite data operations products, production and procedures, network (LAN/WAN) architecture, protocols and equipment, Linux knowledge of software and system test and validation processes, Operations procedures (SOP) development and validation.
- Experience in dealing with science data processing systems.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: 3+ years of directly related experience in Satellite Operations Center experience supporting operations and at least 1 years satellite operations and or science data processing experience.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Space Operations, Computer Technology, Math, Physics, or EE.
SECURITY CLEARANCE: Must be a US Citizen and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a National Agency Check (NAC) security badge to enter the applicable government facility.
