Position Focus & Opportunity
As a System Engineer, you will play a vital role in our dynamic IT team, ensuring the stability, security, and optimization of our computer systems. You will utilize your technical expertise and problem-solving skills to maintain and enhance our infrastructure, while also designing, configuring, and implementing systems and contributing to the overall success of our organization.
· Work with a team of System Administrators, providing guidance, mentorship, and support.
· Within assigned scope, will delegate and assign tasks to system administrators and other technical resources.
· Foster a collaborative and growth-focused environment, empowering team members to excel in their roles.
· Oversee the administration, configuration, and maintenance of operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux) and server hardware.
· Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department managers.
· Lead IT projects or tracks - related to system upgrades, migrations, and technology implementations, ensuring successful project outcomes.
· Design and architect scalable solutions for a multisite environment.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align projects with organizational goals.
· Develop, implement, and maintain Microsoft Endpoint Manager/Intune.
· Perform key responsibilities around Microsoft365 solutions and suite
· Implementing and managing a hybrid AzureAD and Active Directory environment
· Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use and disaster recovery.
· Administer and support Active Directory and Microsoft 365 cloud enterprise systems. Including domain migrations and migrations from on-prem email solutions to Office 365.
· Monitor system performance, identifying opportunities for optimization and efficiency enhancements.
· Use experience with Powershell and scripting for automation projects and tasks.
· Configure and administrate VMware vSphere hypervisor stacks following industry best practices for multiple locations.
· Coordinate with network engineering, business application and database administration functions to implement desktop and server systems that utilize industry best practices to meet corporate objectives.
· Deploy workstations, servers, printers, scanners, firewalls, encryption systems and all host security systems.
· Administer communications and connection solutions, including ensuring workstation connectivity, local area networks, intranet, and Internet applications.
· Monitor and test network performance and provide network and system performance statistics and reports.
· Recommend, schedule and perform network, software and hardware improvements, upgrades, etc.
· Ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers, multiple databases and during data transfer in accordance to business needs and industry best-practices regarding privacy, security and regulatory compliance.
· Administrate input/output fleet, including printers and scanners.
· Administrate end user accounts, permissions, access rights and storage allocations in accordance with best practices regarding privacy, security and regulatory compliance.
· Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software problems on servers, input/output fleet and workstations. Escalate incidents as necessary.
· Support application development and support teams.
· Participate in negotiations with vendors, outsourcers and contractors to secure software products and services.
· Develop, document and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use.
· For new systems and changes, prepares hand-off documentation to support and/or service desk with the change requests.
What we’re looking for
· University degree in the field of computer science or a combination of industry certifications VMware and MS Server Operating Systems, and/or equivalent related work experience of 6 years or more.
· Strong technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including at least 6 years industry experience in a technical role.
· Strong technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols and standards.
· On-call availability for 24-hour call rotation in a production environment.
· Strong understanding of project management principles.
· Strong customer service orientation.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Ability to conduct and direct research into IT issues and products as required.
· Highly self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail.
· Proven analytical, evaluative and problem-solving abilities.
· Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
· Extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
