Position Summary:

Position is responsible for Systems and Infrastructure Engineering and participates in overseeing and reviewing the work of staff and contracted personnel conducting design, repair, maintenance and replacement of track, drainage systems, bridges & culverts, highway-rail and pedestrian-rail grade crossings, controlled points/interlockings, overhead contact Systems and substations, stations, maintenance facilities and park and rides. Position may also be responsible for facilitating design, calculations, and various engineering services.

Description of Duties:

• Oversee, monitor, inspect, and analyze existing and future field conditions to ensure that safety and maintenance procedures are being followed.
• Provides technical advice and recommendations to the Chief Engineer and Engineering Staff.
• Act as the main technical adviser for various engineering projects for subcontractors and craft personnel.
• Prepare technical reports on items of concern and recommend cost-effective repairs and countermeasures to drive system safety, availability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Assist DTO Procurement and Administration staff with preparation of Engineering Contracts through scope of work development.
• Assist with the development and implementation of Engineering Department maintenance standards and renewal criteria as necessary.
• Provide coordination with contractors for the preparation of engineering drawings, plans, and specifications.
• Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, processes, and criteria using sound judgment in making adaptations and modifications to Engineering Department-issued drawings, plans and specifications.
• Assist with the implementation of processes and tools, providing system reports, maintaining and updating electronic information systems.
• Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for the Engineering Department.
• Attends and participates in professional group meetings, staying on top of new trends and innovations in the field of railroad design, maintenance, inspection and repair.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Project Management, or Construction Management from a four-year college or university.
• Minimum 5 years related experience.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) or Professional Engineer (PE) license, strongly preferred.
• Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
• Must have strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite of Applications; AutoCAD Design software; Asset management and maintenance management system.
• Ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
• Understand FRA regulations pertaining to the above systems is preferred, including, but not limited to FRA parts 213, 214, 217, 218, 222, 233, 234, 236, and 237.
• Must be available to travel and work in field.
• Must hold, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen and be willing to comply with the DTO Drug and Alcohol Policy.

Working Conditions:

• Though infrequent, the incumbent might be required to work nights and/or weekends.
• Environmental Conditions: office, field, and construction site environment; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, heat, cold, and inclement weather conditions
• Physical Conditions: May be required to walk, stand, or sit for prolonged periods of time.
