The primary responsibilities for this role are the maintenance, support, and development of Harbin Clinic's internal application interfaces and external health information exchanges (HIE). The System Integration Analyst 1 provides outstanding customer service and contributes to the organization's mission of utilizing health information technology to improve patient care.

 

Under direction of the Application Services Director and with guidance from senior analysts, the System Integration Analyst 1 utilizes his/her knowledge of clinical and business requirements, application capabilities, and his/her technical skills to maintain and support integrations between clinical and non-clinical applications. The System Integration Analyst 1 will be responsible for daily interface monitoring as well as configuration changes, upgrades, modifications, and security of application interfaces. The analyst will also participate in go-live support, new release support, and on-going user support and education. He/she should be able to work on multiple projects / issues concurrently.  He/she should be adept working with a variety of users including physicians, administration, managers, clinical, and office staff.

 

Essential Job Functions

Job functions may include but will not be limited to the following.

  • Monitors interface logs for errors processing messages daily.  Works with system administrators and end users to resolve data errors.
  • Performs System Integration analysis, requirements and design activities.
  • Analyzes and resolves issues encountered by the end-users during any implementation/new release and coordinate remediation with vendor or other staff.
  • Participates in the evaluation, testing and implementation of future releases. Participate in post implementation change evaluation and supports users in maintaining changed interfaces.
  • Participates in change control process.
  • Acts as liaison between application vendors, management, community HIE partners, and application end-users.
  • Works with entire Information Technology Services department to ensure application support issues are resolved and other day to day break fix items are completed..
  • Answers tier 1 & tier 2 phone calls, emails, and other inquiries.
  • Receives and performs work order tickets from Harbin Service Desk staff, project manager, and/or supervisor.  Ensures all issues are reported, tracked, and completed within a ticket/work order based application.
  • Proactively reads, creates, maintains, and follows application documentation to deliver consistent services & solutions.
  • Provides interface and workflow support to application analysts, system administrators, super users, and end users.
  • Assists with upgrades to the electronic health record (EHR) application as well as other clinical and non-clinical software applications.
  • Performs scheduled and ad hoc application audits to monitor compliance with HIPAA and Harbin Clinic policies.
  • Provides reports from assigned application(s) and assists users with report needs.
  • Exhibits effective problem solving techniques and looks for opportunities to contribute application & interface improvements.
  • Assists in preparation of training materials and support materials, as needed.
  • Maintains a working relationship with the assigned application(s) user group(s) at Harbin Clinic and with application(s) vendors.
  • Identifies and recommends for evaluation/implementation application enhancements or integration with other applications.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality, safeguards protected health information (PHI), and reports disclosures appropriately.
  • May design and develop application interfaces using commercial or vendor integration engines and EDI/HL7 or related enterprise application integration (EAI) standards.
  • May train or assist in training new and current users.
  • May participate as a technical subject matter expert for LEAN projects with guidance from senior analysts or supervisor.
  • May require some direction from vendors and supervisor to resolve routine interface issues. 
  • May be cross trained to perform job functions as staffing needs dictate.  Provides coverage for other team members, when necessary.
  • Meets regularly with clinical system administrators outside ITS (e.g. LIS, RIS, Oncology System, etc.) to streamline interfaces, train on advanced features, and share best practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Requires functional near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color and depth perception.

  • Requires eyehand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate computer keyboard, copier, telephone, and other medical office equipment.
  • Requires ability to distinguish letters or symbols.
  • May be required to lift objects weighing up to forty-five pounds
  • May have to sit for long periods of time working on the computer

              II. Psychological

  • Requires the ability to work independently and follow through with instructions and projects.
  • Requires the ability to maintain a professional composure when talking with/reviewing the work product of individuals who fill certain positions within each Clinical office at the Clinic.

              III. Interpersonal

  • Requires good communication skills and the ability to interact with people from diversified backgrounds.
  • Requires the ability to quickly establish rapport with people.
  • Requires the ability to develop effective and pleasant interpersonal relationships with fellow staff members and office managers.
  • Be able to effectively communicate at various levels within Harbin Clinic and with outside contacts including physicians and their staff members, as well as administrative levels, staff levels and vendor representatives, as required. 
  • Participate in meetings with assigned user-group(s). 
  • Maintain a professional attitude in working relationships.

 

General Performance Requirements

  • This position is a full time, salary position. 
  • Most employees in this position work a daytime schedule, 8a.m. to 5 p.m., but this schedule may vary based on Clinic & staffing needs. 
  • Limited weekend and after hour work required.
  • Effective company communication required 24/7 (email/phone/etc.).
  • On call phone support may be required.
  • Limited travel will be required. 
  • Uniform may be required otherwise business dress is required.
  • If company cell phone is provided you will be required to setup and use email, voicemail, respond to phone calls, etc.
  • 30 Day notice required for resignation or transfers from this position.
  • Requires reliable transportation and traveling to all Harbin Clinic locations.
  • Participates in activities, such as LEAN projects, that lead toward the improvement of processes and performance throughout the Clinic.
  • Promotes a cooperative environment for fellow staff members.
  • Follows common safety and bio hazardous waste precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Maintains quality control standards.
  • Participates in continuing education to maintain current licensure and/or enhance skill level.
  • Abides by policies and procedures of the Harbin Clinic, LLC.
  • Support the goals and objectives of the Application Services Department and Harbin Clinic.
  • Preserve the confidentiality of patient information in compliance with HIPAA and standards of good judgment.
  • Understands and practices concepts of need-to-know restrictions and only accesses systems, server rooms, information, and/or data for legitimate job functions.
  • Maintain high standards of customer service.
  • Understand healthcare terminology, physician office workflow, and clinic organization and structure.

 

Qualifications

              I.  Education

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Healthcare Informatics, Computer Information Systems, or related field.  Directly related experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis.
  • Clinical Informatics Certificate preferred.

              II. Experience

  • 1+ years work experience in application integration.
  • Experience integrating EHR/EMR, LIS, RIS, OIS, PACS/CPACS, or other clinical applications using HL7, web services, or other industry standard EDI/EAI preferred.
