Job Summary
After orientation and training, performs specific and limited electrical engineering assignments related to transmission system equipment and issues using prescribed methods, standard techniques, and engineering practices. Adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes. Within the above guidelines, reviews relay setting sheets and assists in identifying discrepancies, performs root cause analysis of transmission equipment failures, reviews relaying and control schemes, and monitors transmission system component condition for potential problems. Reviews system performance for problems by using data generated from routine inspections or tests.
Through development assignments, independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard electrical engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. Under the guidance of a Senior Level or Specialist Level Transmission System Engineer, develops potential solutions to problems identified through various data analyses. Assists in development of modernization projects and other capital improvements.
May be responsible for phases of less complex projects, which are guided by precedent. Work assignments are designed to lead to performance as a fully competent engineer in all aspects electrical engineering related to the transmission system.
When assigned to a Nuclear Plant, must be able to obtain and maintain an unescorted plant access certification. Must be able to obtain and maintain S-3 and S-4 medical ratings with no shift work or overtime restrictions. Must be willing and medically qualified to work rotating shifts and the maximum overtime permitted by TVA procedures during peak demand periods. Must receive and pass required training to obtain and maintain Independent Qualified reviews and 10CFR50.59 review status.
Supervision Received
The incumbent is closely supervised with precedents provided for other than standard tasks. The incumbent is expected to progress such that independent performance of routine assignments be carried out. Over a period, work on more difficult assignments is expected, but the supervisor continues to prescribe methods and possible outcomes as well as review the work for sound professional judgment.
Skills and Proficiencies (May be job or organization specific)
Knowledge of scientific and engineering principles.
Knowledge of industry standards and codes such as applicable IEEE standards and NESC.
Skill in using standard Microsoft office programs.
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings related to the transmission system.
Ability to convey technical information effectively both written and orally.
Demonstrate the ability to use basic problem solving and analysis techniques
Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard):
Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements
Bachelors' degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering school.
Certification as an Engineer-In-Training (desirable).
