Job description

The Veterans' Home in Holyoke is seeking a hard-working and collaborative professional for our Switchboard Operator vacancy.  This position is responsible for maintaining the operations of our switchboard area, monitoring the front entrance, and working with Security and Maintenance to ensure the safety of the facility.  Additionally, this role performs various clerical and receptionist functions.

 

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Maintains operations of the Switchboard area.
  • Responsible for answering, screening, and directing incoming calls.
  • Responsible for monitoring the front entrance, video cameras, and the alarm board.
  • Sorts the facility's incoming mail.
  • Responsible for emergency procedure instructions and facility-wide notifications
  • Directs visitors, residents, and vendors to the proper destination.

Schedule:

       This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position working from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm.

       Must be able to provide coverage on 1st (7:00 am - 3:00 pm) and 2nd (3:00 pm - 11:00 pm) shifts depending on the needs of the department.

       Alternating weekend and holiday schedule.

       Note: This is 24 hour/7 days a week long-term care facility and as a result, the Veterans' Home in Holyoke may require this individual to be present during nontraditional hours when circumstances dictate the operational need.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to deal tactfully with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform various clerical functions.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Personable and professional in dealing with visitors, staff, and Veteran residents.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with others.
  • Skilled in using a computer.
