The Country Club of Landfall is seeking one experienced Head Coach for the Lazers Swim Team 2024 summer season. The Landfall Lazers are a well-established team located in Wilmington, NC. The Lazers currently compete in the Wilmington Swim League. We are looking for a high-energy, motivated individual to lead approximately 120 swimmers of all ability levels in our developmental and competitive summer swim league, as well as coordinate and manage our assistant and junior coaches.
The ideal candidate would have head coaching experience, strong leadership and communication skills, the ability to connect with children from grades K-12, and an infectious enthusiasm for the sport of swimming. The candidate will work closely with parent volunteers and junior coaching staff to carry out the many day-to-day responsibilities of the coaching staff.

To develop the next generation of athletic leaders in and out of the pool.

Daily Expectations - Head Coach
- Create daily workouts to accommodate variety of skill levels
- Provide guidance, coordination and management for Assistant, Junior and Volunteer coaches to ensure proper coverage of all lanes
- Ensure safe swimming environment with main focus on the swimmers in the pool at all times
- Being mindful of other swimmers in and around the pool who are not participating in Swim Team
- Coordinate with the Aquatics Coordinator and League Administrator for meet line-ups, parent communications and activity scheduling throughout the season
- Ensure prompt arrival and timeliness for all practices, meets and team activities
- "Remain present" and engaged during practice and meets and reduce external distractions
- For more developed swimmers, provide tips for technique and refining their stroke. For less developed swimmers, provide in-water instruction to ensure repetition of tips, review any disqualification information and ensure that is a focus of practice
- Provide feedback on performance during meets as well as practice
- Ensure all coaches are aware of how to handle potential injury or escalate issues
- Encourage, cheer and energize swimmers with hopes of impacting positive performance
- Maintain positive attitude and ensure high level of encouragement
- Assist with meet/practice set-up or break down
- Provide communication for parents regarding meet lineups, formats, etc to plan for scheduling
- Adhere to guidelines for USA Swimming Safe Sport and ensure appropriate coach/athlete and athlete/athlete relationships
- If needed, provide coaching/mentoring sessions for parent volunteers and junior coaches and, when needed, counsel or provide guidance "in the moment" to ensure proper behavioral change
Schedule:
Afternoon practices begin Monday, May 15th from 4-6:30pm. Once New Hanover County Public Schools complete the school year, practices will be held in the morning from 8:00am-10:00am Monday-Friday. The Lazers will participate in 5 local meets and one, end of season, Championship Meet that concludes the season in late July.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience as a head coach, or extensive experience as an Assistant Coach
- US Swim Coach Certification or equivalent
- Valid CPR/AED, First-Aid & Pool Operator certification
- College Degree (preferred)
- Strong organizational skills
- Effective communications skills (for children and parents)
- Letters of Recommendation (3)
- 'Swimmingly' software experience desired
