Job description

Are you a water enthusiast with a passion for teaching? We're seeking outgoing Swim Instructors who love guiding children and adults toward their swimming goals, setting them up for success in and out of the water. In this exciting role, you'll not only teach water acclimation and safety but also help students master water movement, build stamina, and perfect stroke mechanics. We empower thousands of individuals each year to embrace swimming as both a playful pastime and lifelong exercise.

As a Swim Instructor, you'll lead engaging classes for 1-3 participants aged 3 and up, guiding them through the ins and outs of swimming with confidence and joy. Safety is paramount in your work, and you'll ensure participants flourish in the aquatic environment.

You'll also have the opportunity to teach parent/child classes, inspiring up to 20 participants to embrace the water together. Join us and make a splash as you share the gift of swimming with our community!

Hiring Range: $20/hour - $22/hour DOE for 18 years or older; $19.97/hour for under.

We can help you obtain the necessary certifications if you don't currently have them.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
  • Assists with maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck and surrounding areas.
  • Develops positive relationships with participants and parents encouraging involvement and identifying potential volunteers.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Responds to emergency situations as needed. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
  • Conveys basic information on YMCA programs and schedules to members and, as appropriate, refers members to other YMCA Total Health programs and/or staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

You are 16 years of age or older and have:

  • Demonstrated ability to assist children and others in the development of swimming skills.
  • Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
  • Ability to teach skills to others.
  • Ability to pass a swim competency test.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current state approved first-aid certification*
  • Knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
  • Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
