Job description

TopLine Financial Credit Union is looking for a new SVP Finance and Chief Finance Officer to join our Corporate team in Maple Grove, MN!

Accountable for the financial leadership and discipline necessary for the long-term success of the organization, for directing the fiscal functions of the organization in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the rules and regulation of the National Credit Union Administration, and the Minnesota Department of Commerce. Working with other TopLine leaders Provides counsel to the President/CEO and Board of Directors to develop, implement initiatives to assure achievement of business goals and objectives by managing the balance sheet and assets of the credit union. Conducts analyses and prepares regular reports that depict the financial status of the credit union. Serves as an Investment Officer for the credit union.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Supports the CEO and Board by leading the development and on-going monitoring of the Strategic and Business Plans, with direct responsibility for developing the budget and budgeting process.
  • Provides the primary thought leadership in the finance area, while developing and maintaining an understanding of all credit union functions, with special emphasis on the enhancement and support of Red Book member service both externally and internally.
  • Responsible for the credit union's internal accounting and financial reporting systems, policies, programs and procedures.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of risk management, with direct responsibility for the asset liability management function, which includes chairing the Asset Liability Committee.
  • Actively participates as a member of the Loan Review Committee with a focus on pricing, balance sheet management and risk assessment.
  • Responsible for deposit and loan product pricing, pricing discipline and establishing related credit union policies and ALM profitability strategies.
  • Manages the investment portfolio of the credit union, in accordance with the credit union's Investment and Liquidity policies.
  • Oversees preparation and timely filing of the NCUA 5300 Call report, IRS 990, and other tax and information returns as required.
  • Responsible for external opinion audits, credit union examinations and other audits to ensure the credit union is in compliance with prescribed accounting methods set out in regulation, law, FASB rules, and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Establish and maintain credibility throughout the organization as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges. Works collaboratively with all leaders and staff to seek improvement in products, efficiency and service to establish and maintain alignment.
  • Responsible for all product, department and product promotion profitability reporting along with financial projections for overall results and new initiatives including mergers and branch expansion.
  • Establish and maintain timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the CEO/President and the Board and other senior executives in performing their responsibilities.
  • Provides concise and well written reports, and delivers effective oral presentations.
  • Acts as a key liaison between TopLine and its many constituencies, which could include but is not limited to members, officials, regulators, suppliers and business partners.
  • Acts as a key representative of TopLine to the public, which includes but is not limited to community organizations and officials, trade organizations and other industry contacts, as well as being active in the finance field, e.g. CFO networks, organizations, roundtables, conferences, etc.
  • Responsible for all reporting, compliance, methods and procedures, and systems issues related to finance and other areas directly supervised, with a continual interest in improving the overall operations and effectiveness of the organization.

  • Performs other related duties and special projects as required or assigned by the President/CEO.


Qualification and Education Requirements
  • An experienced leader and financial executive with appropriate industry experience, preferably in the credit union field.
  • An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image.
  • A strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus.
  • A well organized and self-directed individual who works collaboratively and is a team player.
  • An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people on all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills.
  • A good educator who is trustworthy and willing to share information and serve as a mentor. An excellent negotiator who is experienced in contracts.
  • A decisive individual who possesses a strategic perspective and is well versed in enterprise systems.
  • 4 year degree in Finance or Accounting with advanced degree and CPA designation preferred.
  • 7 plus years related experience with 5 years senior level supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Computer proficiency in all standard office software, e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and internet.
  • Ability to work effectively with people in a diverse environment that encompasses regular deadlines, where change is always possible and flexibility is required.
  • Excellent leadership, problem solving, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel locally to branches and within the United States as needed to perform management and leadership functions.
