Position Description

Optum Financial (OF) is seeking a SVP & GM, Consumer Accounts, who will report to the Consumer Group Executive within Optum Financial and who will manage the P&L, growth and client service for OF Consumer's payer and employer businesses.

Optum Financial is a health FinTech company delivering end-to-end integrated payments and banking experiences for consumers, providers, and payers, embedded within the health care ecosystem. Optum Financial is part of UnitedHealth Group, a Fortune 5 company serving 145 million individuals globally.

The SVP & GM, Consumer Accounts, Optum Financial will combine and manage OF payer and employer consumer businesses, leading the largest healthcare financial account company in the United States (>23M individuals). They will play a critical role in growing and maintaining Optum's market-leading position in the directed benefits space, including delivering new market-shaping innovation. They will also drive business transformation through new servicing and pricing structures that will accelerate industry growth. The combined businesses are highly visible and significantly impact UnitedHealthcare's Medicare and Employer businesses, driving growth and consumer perception of UnitedHealthcare's products.

The SVP & GM, Consumer Accounts OF will also play a pivotal role in sourcing and leading large-scale M&A. This includes acquiring scale within existing OF Consumer industries, as well as entering new industries through transformative M&A. The SVP will outreach directly to CEOs and Board members of target companies and lead strategic rationale through diligence.

The scope of this position is critical; visibility will be high; timelines will be ambitious; the details will be essential; the impact on the future of Optum Financial Consumer business - and its integration with the enterprise's broader consumer strategy - will be significant.

Primary Responsibilities:

  Lead and effectively manage OF Consumer's payer and employer P&L (growth, positioning, solutions). This includes:

    o   Overseeing and evolving the payer and employer product and feature set and go-to-market pricing and positioning. 

    o   Managing the end-to-end strategy and experience across product and relationship management, leveraging matrixed capabilities for technology, operations, marketing, legal, and growth.

    o   Develop and manage strategic relationships with third parties, including key vendors and service providers.

    o   Continuing to build and manage the team to support next generation of financial services products and features.

   Align across Optum Financial leaders to ensure market alignment and consistency across experiences and products.

  Source and lead strategic M&A activities.

  Continue to create market leading, innovative solutions and approaches.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 8 years of Financial Services, FinTech, financing, investments, and/or payments expertise
  • M&A experience
  • Experience managing and growing a P&L
  • Proven track record of sustained results at scale and ability to work in a complex, matrixed environment
  • Motivational and experienced people leader
  • Expert relationship, management, and negotiation skills
  • Expert collaborator, communicator, and executive presence
  • Solid financial and business model acumen
  • Solid understanding of market, industry, and consumer trends and how to apply them on an ongoing basis to create leading solutions
  • Policy/regulatory understanding
  • Ability to travel, extensively to Eden Prairie, Minnesota and other Optum and client locations

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington residents is $275,000-$350,000 per year. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
