Job description

Summary:
Reporting in a dual capacity to both the System Chief Executive Officer and System Chief Operating Officer, the System Chief Nursing & Patient Care Services Officer provides strategic executive-level leadership and oversight for all facets of nursing practice and strategy, nursing and patient care operations, and patient care services across the enterprise, inclusive but limited to inpatient, ambulatory, emergency services, women & children's, behavioral health, rehab, and correctional nursing, while simultaneously being accountable for nursing practice and strategy, including maintaining Magnet status and forging strategic academic affiliations and relationships.
• Key areas of accountability include nursing and patient care services operations, nursing education, nursing and clinical practice, staffing/resource office and float pool, academic affiliations, and patient navigation/command center.
• Determines the scope and delivery of nursing services wherever nursing is practiced across the health system inclusive of Main Campus, Old Brooklyn, Parma, and Cleveland Height, as well as all ambulatory locations.
• Creates and implements the organization's nursing care delivery vision and strategy that is incorporated within the organization's overarching strategic plan.
• Responsibilities include ensuring professional practice of nursing, establishing standards of practice for nursing, and providing overall strategic, administrative, and operational direction for nursing care.
• Collaborates closely with the CEO, COO, CCO/CPE (Chief Clinical Officer & Chief Physician Executive) and the CAO (Chief Academic Officer) and others, to reinforce organizational structures, systems and processes that support a patient centered and people first culture to drive clinical and academic excellence with an emphasis on health equity.
• Drives operational execution including but not limited to budget performance, workforce optimization and staffing, recruitment and retention, quality, patient safety and experience.
• Pursues top decile performance with a focus on execution and creates accountability and discipline for achieving results.
• Leads and focuses on driving staffing management, productivity initiatives, throughput improvements, and fostering a best-in-class experience.
• Partners with key stakeholders to develop a nursing workforce plan and strategy and supports internal and external partnerships to building nursing and workforce pipelines.
• Leads the development, implementation, and engagement in activities aimed at ensuring high-quality, patient and family-centered nursing and clinical care across all patient care areas.
• Has the responsibility for executing and ensuring that nursing and patient care are consistent with the mission, vision, values, goals and strategies and serves as the role model for excellence in healthcare leadership.
Qualifications:Required:
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN)
• Master of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN), Master of Business Administration (MBA), or other job-related graduate degree.
• License as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio or ability to obtain.
• 8-10 years of progressive nursing leadership experience, including a minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a CNO.
• Demonstrated experience/expertise across the care continuum (inpatient, procedural, outpatient, post-acute).
• Demonstrated expertise with staffing, acuity, and workforce productivity software.
• Ability to articulate a clear vision for nursing excellence, fostering innovation, and driving strategic initiatives.
• Ability to lead and build high-performing teams, fostering collaboration with diverse stakeholders across departments.
• Distinguished track record of leadership experience and skill in managing and carrying out initiatives in a matrix organizational structure environment.
• Demonstrated managerial skills, including the ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct multiple projects and activities with varied deadlines, lead people and drive results.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work in a team and with multi-disciplinary groups.
• Demonstrated clinical competence.
• Demonstrated leadership skills, including in a Magnet culture. Demonstrated knowledge of Magnet required metrics, and experience in compiling necessary documentation/evidence for successful Magnet designation/re-designation.
• Strong analytical abilities and strategic planning skills.
• Proven ability to problem-solve and exercise effective judgment within a dynamic environment.
• Demonstrated evidence of continuing professional self-development.
• Administrator on-call experience.
• Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.  
Preferred:
• Doctor of Nursing Practice or PhD in Nursing.
• Certification in a nursing executive practice, such as the Nurse Executive Advanced - Board Certified (NEA-BC) through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP) through the American Organization of Nurse Leadership (AONL).
• Experience in labor relations.
Physical Demands:
• Ability to travel between locations around The MetroHealth System based on operational needs.
• May need to move around intermittently during the day, including sitting, standing, stooping, bending, and ambulating.
• May need to remain still for extended periods, including sitting and standing.
• Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications.
• Ability to read job-related documents.
• Ability to use a computer.
• See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
• Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
• Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required.
• Ability to see computer monitor and departmental documents.
Location: METROHEALTH MEDICAL CENTER
Biweekly Hours: 80.00
Shift: Monday - Friday 8am - 5:00 pm
