Position Summary

Berkshire’s Summer Internship program provides students an enriched experience with hands-on opportunities through projects and real-life situations. Under the general direction of the VP of Sustainability, the ESG Intern will assist with ESG/BerkshireTHRIVE committee and goals while working on a summer project that will consist of creating education/marketing material to support the expansion of the BerkshireTHRIVE sustainability initiative.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Assisting with day-to-day operation of the BerkshireTHRIVE Sustainability initiative
  • Development of written and presentation materials to assist with sustainability education, marketing initiatives, and reporting activities
  • Analysis of sustainability performance data including building and fund-level utility performance, greenhouse gas emissions, climate risk, green certification status, health and wellness related metrics, and efficiency project tracking
  • Conducting research on emerging sustainability trends and technologies
  • Supporting internal sustainability projects and protocols related to due diligence, sustainability performance monitoring, climate risk and resilience, renewable energy and carbon reduction strategies and technologies, education, risk management, compliance, and marketing

At the end of the summer, the intern will prepare and deliver a presentation to Berkshire’s Senior Leadership Team summarizing a project or key task they have been working on at Berkshire, the insights they gained through their internship experience, and any recommended process enhancements.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Passion for improving sustainability of the built environment
  • Available to work in person from mid-May to mid-August (approx. 12 weeks) from 9:00 am-5:30 pm, Monday through Friday
  • Ability to present findings to senior leadership
  • Great interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships both in one-on-one situations as well as in a team setting
  • Ability to think creatively when problem solving for new solutions
  • Strong writing, presentation, and data analysis skills
  • Knowledge of green buildings, corporate social responsibility, and/or the importance of sustainability to the financial sector (preferred but not required)

Technical/ Educational Requirements:

  • Anticipated graduation date in 2024 or 2025 with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business or science with a specialization in sustainability, environmental science, sustainable investing, asset management, financial services, or related area of study 
  • Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook or similar programs
