The Sustainability Intern will assist Chapman in advancing sustainability initiatives. They may focus on items such as embodied carbon assessments, carbon emission tracking, sustainability R&D, and other items relating to sustainability, such as certification programs like Contractor’s Commitment, Passive House, Living Building Challenge, LEED, and WELL.
The Sustainability intern will be primarily based in the office but may also spend time in the field learning construction methods and practices under the guidance of a Chapman field supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Participate in Sustainability Group meetings.
- Assist with carbon accounting initiatives, exercises, and staff training.
- Research current requirements for various sustainability programs and technologies that relate to Chapman’s work.
- Attend project meetings as required.
- Assist projects with sustainability certification setup and documentation.
- Assist in developing, documenting, and implementing sustainability processes.
- Assist in developing and promoting field sustainability procedures.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE):
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Construction Management, Environmental Sciences, Architecture, etc. Coursework in sustainability preferred.
- Self-motivated, organized, enthusiastic, and with solid work ethic.
- Ability to identify and solve potential sustainability challenges on projects.
- Ability to read drawings and specifications.
- Organized with the ability to prioritize and multitask effectively.
- Create and present solutions to potential problems.
- Communicates effectively and respects others on the project team.
