Essential Responsibilities:
Clinical Practice:
- Act as an expert resource and role model for the staff.
- Create, modify, and evaluate policies and procedures based on clinical practice guidelines.
- Ensure care delivery meets guidelines through competency-based assessment of all staff.
- Support ongoing education and professional growth of self and staff.
- Stay current with practice changes and communicate to staff.
Personnel Management:
- Interview, recruit, and hire RN staff.
- Conduct performance appraisals and address disciplinary problems.
- Ensure staff has knowledge and skills for appropriate, safe patient care through education, coaching, or experience.
- Develop and maintain staffing patterns for the unit.
- Coordinate and chair staff meetings and UBT.
Leadership:
- Facilitate interdepartmental relationships to support the mission, vision, and goals of the department and organization.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and collaboration.
- Facilitate a culture of creative thinking, problem-solving, and act as a change agent.
- Meet deadlines, escalate issues to appropriate parties, and develop the next generation of leaders.
Quality Assurance/Improvement:
- Participate in data gathering and analysis.
- Articulate organization and department performance improvement programs and goals.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory bodies and professional standards.
- Monitor the quality and safety of units, supporting a quality plan.
- Investigate any quality concerns in the department and report findings.
Financial Management:
- Work with the business manager or director to develop a budget.
- Manage both labor and inventory and supplies cost-effectively within the budget.
- Define budget variances and course-correct.
- Define capital equipment needs, prioritizing when capital is limited.
- Educate staff on department budgetary goals and promote cost-effectiveness.
Labor Management:
- Maintain a cooperative, efficient work environment through consistent interpretation and application of contractual guidelines.
Additional Duties:
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum five (5) years of RN clinical experience, with at least two (2) years in Perioperative Services.
- Minimum two (2) years of leadership role in the healthcare field.
- BSN or health-related bachelor's degree or currently enrolled in a BSN or health-related bachelor's degree program with a completed date defined.
- Registered Nurse License (Oregon).
- Basic Life Support within 1 month of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum two (2) years of Critical Care experience (MPU or SPA/PACU only).
- Minimum four (4) years of previous management experience in a similar role or in an acute care setting.
- Certification in specialization (CNOR, CPAN, etc.).
- Master's degree preferred.
