DEFINITION:
Under the direction of the Surgeon, the Surgical First Assistant (non physician) assists in the performance of any surgical procedure, working under the surgeon’s direction and delivery of patient care as a member of the surgical team, assumes appropriate responsibility for delivery of that care before, during and after surgery.
EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technologist preferred. Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical First Assistant program or willing to complete a Surgical First Assistant program.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical technologist preferred. Certification as Surgical Tech, preferred.
