Surgery Scheduler

Location:

Job Summary/Objective:

Position requires the utilization of clinical knowledge to schedule appropriate procedures/surgeries per provider’s orders.

Essential Job Functions:

• Schedules office and hospital-based medical procedures, for patients with appropriate provider and time/location slot, utilizing appropriate scheduling code.
• Interfaces with appropriate vendor staff to ensure all necessary equipment will be on-site for office and hospital-based procedures.
• Interfaces with appropriate hospital staff to ensure a cohesive working relationship in providing patient care services.
• Enters notes/special instructions needed for scheduling in the electronic medical record.
• Effectively utilizes clinical knowledge when determining if an appointment is consistent with the diagnosis/indications indicated by the provider.
• Ensures patients have proper medical clearance and pre-surgical testing as needed.
• Confirms appointment times with patients via telephone.
• Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that organizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
• Assists other members of the patient access team as needed.

Required Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or GED
• At least 3 years of experience working in a healthcare environment.
• Must demonstrate consistent professional conduct and meticulous attention to detail.
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and other healthcare professionals.
• Critical thinking skills and a positive attitude essential.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Certified Medical Assistant or LVN
• Previous experience with surgery scheduling
• Some previous work experience in an ENT clinic.

Work Conditions:

• Work is performed in a fast paced medical/clinical environment.
• Requires sitting in front of a computer and phone for more than six (6) hours per day.
