Position Responsibilities:
- Communicating with physicians, patients, surgery centers, and hospitals to coordinate and schedule surgeries and tests
- Reviewing patient's medical records for pertinent data; reviewing and maintaining accurate patient information/demographic data
- Verifying patient's insurance prior to scheduling; coordinating with the pre-certification department and insurance companies for prior authorization
- Entering data into proper systems
- Reviewing lab results and addressing abnormalities
- Sending and obtaining clearances from Primary Care Physicians and Cardiologists
- Educating patients and their caregivers regarding specific care related to surgery as instructed by the physician
- Assisting in clinic as needed
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with all HIPAA rules and regulations
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- Medical Assistant Certification or Practical Nurse License preferred
- One year of appointment/surgery scheduling experience in a medical office is preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology, customer service principles and techniques
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with patients, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds
- Knowledge of personal computer applications and Electronic Medical Record
