Position Responsibilities:

• Communicating with physicians, patients, surgery centers, and hospitals to coordinate and schedule surgeries and tests
• Reviewing patient's medical records for pertinent data; reviewing and maintaining accurate patient information/demographic data
• Verifying patient's insurance prior to scheduling; coordinating with the pre-certification department and insurance companies for prior authorization
• Entering data into proper systems
• Reviewing lab results and addressing abnormalities
• Sending and obtaining clearances from Primary Care Physicians and Cardiologists
• Educating patients and their caregivers regarding specific care related to surgery as instructed by the physician
• Assisting in clinic as needed
• Maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with all HIPAA rules and regulations

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent is required
• Medical Assistant Certification or Practical Nurse License preferred
• One year of appointment/surgery scheduling experience in a medical office is preferred
• Knowledge of medical terminology, customer service principles and techniques
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
• Ability to effectively communicate and interact with patients, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds
• Knowledge of personal computer applications and Electronic Medical Record
