The PACU/SDS RN has responsibilities to perform duties in all areas of the unit: Recovery Room, Major and Minor surgery areas, as well as Same Day Surgery. Using the nursing process, each patient is assessed, and a plan of care developed and implemented for patients of all ages, including infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Frequent reassessments are required. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to, cleaning, order, and stock supplies, admit and discharge patients from surgical suite, collect, label, and deliver pathological specimens if necessary to laboratory, recovery of patients including monitoring vital signs and documenting post-anesthesia care, and cleaning equipment between cases. Also acts as educator preoperatively when discussing case with patient and postoperatively when giving discharge instructions. The PACU/SDS RN is responsible for management of airway (O2, ET tube and suctioning techniques), chest drainage tubes, catheters (urethral, suprapubic, and 3-way irrigation), IV lines, central lines, administration of blood and blood products, and suction equipment. The PACU/SDS nurse participates in Quality Improvement, Quality Control, narcotic counts, submission of daily charges and statistics, updates chart, reviews test results and understands significance. Maintains complete documentation and is responsible for notifying physician, family, and supervisor of change in patient status. Will assist in pain clinic as needed.
Schedule: Tues, Wed, Thurs (three 12-hour shifts)
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Licensed and current registration as a professional nurse in the State of Illinois. New graduate must sit for boards and submit for IL licensure within 6 months of hire.
- Current CPR and ACLS Certification.
- Clinical experience preferred, but not required.
- Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
- Good working knowledge of the nursing process and strong nursing practice skills including physical assessment skills.
- Proof of current coronary care or intensive care training.
