The Animal Science Center is part of the Office of Research, a group dedicated to aiding the research community in navigating the lifecycle of their work, from finding funding to creating proposals to helping inventions find their way to the public.

A Support Services Technician I, supports the Animal Science Center by completing customer (Boston University research laboratories) colony management tasks as part of the fee-for-service breeding colony management program.
To accomplish this goal, this candidates’ key responsibilities are:
- Maintaining breeding colonies in both specific pathogen-free and conventional facilities (i.e. housing parameters including ASBL-1 and ASBL-2).
- Uphold accurate records of procedures performed and breeding plans, including preparation and submission of written and electronic reports, tables, charts, or logs.
- Provide technical support: handling, restraint, animal identification methods (e.g. ear tagging and notching), tissue collection, and other related.
- General animal husbandry, health and welfare assessment and treatment tasks.
- Communication with research staff and ASC animal core regarding any breeding colony concerns or suggestions.
- Other duties as assigned by manager that include but are not limited to, animal census, supply inventory, administrative processes.
The Support Services team is looking for a candidate who is self-motivated and detail oriented. As members of this team work closely with investigators, an ideal candidate has good interpersonal skills; professional, courteous and upholds good customer service. This candidate can affectively communicate across multiple forms of technology including smartphone and computer.
Required SkillsRequirements/Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- 1 year of experience in the field or related setting
- ALAT certification (not required)
