Job Description:

  • The Supplier Quality Engineer evaluates both internal and external products for compliance with company quality standards; works with Plant 3 on an ongoing basis to make quality improvements; and communicates with Engineering and Purchasing on product issues.
  • Additionally, this position is responsible for development of Control Plans, Inspection Plans, and Audit Plans for our internal Plant 3 product and externally supplied components.
  • This individual will perform root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality issues found. Suggest product improvements through RFI submittal to Engineering with supporting documentation.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, and Engineering to address daily issues that arise on the manufacturing floor.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders through a diplomatic approach.

Essential Functions:
  • Develops positive relationships and effective lines of communication with both internal and external suppliers.
  • Maintaining detailed reports of Supplier Quality, including (but not limited to) defect rates and areas that result in flaws.
  • Collaborates to all Plant 3 & Engineering group to continuously improve performance of key system components (increase life cycle, reduce scrap, improve repair processes) by implementing process controls and developing quality assurance plans.
  • Manage quality metrics by gathering accurate and appropriate data.
  • Providing technical advice and guidance to suppliers to reduce defect rate and improve process effectiveness/efficiency. Supplier development.
  • Initiates and follows up Corrective Actions (CAR's) or 8D's in partnership with suppliers to ensure complete and effective root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of engineering prints product application for the purpose of mentoring suppliers to achieve quality objectives.
  • Will work directly with Metrology Lab on measuring and PPAP inspections. Will assist in Design and Development of gaging and testing as identified on Print Specs and Standards.
  • Travel between responsible suppliers will be required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Must have a high level of interest in mechanical design, metal fabrication, and machine shop operation.
  • Experience in structured root cause and corrective action methodology is a plus.
  • Energetic study and understanding of ISO 9001:20008 and IATF16949:2015 will be required.
  • Energetic study and understanding of GD&T ASME Y14.5 2009 will be required.
  • Knowledge of Advanced Quality Product Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA).
  • Proven ability to resolve complex and usually unique manufacturing process problems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Extremely organized, accurate and possesses a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively solve and analyze problems.
  • Desire to work independently and own every part of the Quality area and work with a cross-functional team.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of environments including extreme cold and heat. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. regularly.
  • Must be an active listener with exceptional time management skills.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or related field. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience equal to 10 years in Quality, Engineering, Fabrication, or manufacturing in a mobility vehicle manufacturing environment will also be considered.
  • Must demonstrate statistical analysis and quality assurance skills.
  • Experience with manufacturing, production, and engineering principles.
  • Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings (blueprints) and schematics.
  • Must have a working knowledge of vehicles, lowered-floor conversion packages, lift products, and inspections.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills and the ability to work closely with other departments.
  • Individual must have a working knowledge with the proper use of Epicor (E10), inspection equipment (tapes, calipers, micrometers, etc.), scan tools, hand tools, power tools, and multimeters.
