ABOUT THE POSITION
This critical position provides Global and Regional support to the Manufacturing organization with supplier qualification, goals, and improvement plans. This position will integrate closely with the businesses support functions and sites to foster a culture of executing on customer satisfaction, quality, cost, efficiency improvements, and assure Global supplier performance to provide exceptional value to Astec. As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you will own the execution of Supplier Quality strategy for the Group, driving supplier qualification/certification, monitoring, performance management and quality issue resolution processes on a Global scale.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of injury in an office environment and occasionally a manufacturing shop plant environment. Duties include a typical office setting including extensive computer work, sitting or standing. Manufacturing Environment
Shop manufacturing environment exposures include exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding and machining operations, outside weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electric shock. The employee may occasionally be exposed to varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, very warm and/or very chilly temperatures. The noise level in the shop can be very loud at times consistent with an industrial assembly facility and may require hearing protection. Key Deliverables
- Collaborate with Supplier Development Engineers and Group Purchasing for review and approval of Supplier Quality audits for quality systems, special processes and customer requirements using Supplier Quality Assurance & Development (SQ&D) processes.
- Partner with the Site Manufacturing and Purchasing group for the facilitation, review and approval of Supplier Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities.
- Lead Root Cause Investigations, and Corrective Action and Continual Improvement activities at assigned suppliers using the methodologies of Six Sigma and Lean Methodologies.
- Support standard Supplier Quality Assurance & Development (SQ&D) processes globally which can include supplier qualification, certification, assessment, monitoring, APQP / PPAP, performance management and quality issue resolution.
- Provide technical expertise and leadership to group sites and suppliers with respect to technology, performance, quality, cost, logistics and delivery.
- Monitor, manage and report key metrics to identify systemic adverse Supplier Quality issues and develops, and leads quality initiative strategies for continuous improvement.
- Supports the sourcing organization with cost recovery for Supplier Quality related issues.
- Enhance Supplier Quality processes and systems by applying lean & continuous improvement tools (e.g. pFMEA, Control Plans, 8D, 5why, Ishikawa Diagrams, A3, Kaizen etc.).
- Contract, as needed, 3rd party quality professionals for inspection or fabrication management services.
To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
- BS or BA degree required in Engineering, Business, Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or related field. Advanced Degree (master’s degree or equivalent) preferred.
- 8 years of experience in Supplier Quality Engineer and/or Supplier Development in a manufacturing company. Prefer metal fabrication and assembly experience.
- Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) preferred.
- Strong data analytical, financial and research capabilities, proven problem-solving skills. Ability to make appropriate decisions.
- Experience in working with and developing Supplier’s Quality Systems and Process Improvement.
- Knowledge of quality standards (ISO9001, AS9100 or IATF 16949) and Six Sigma and Lean and Continuous Improvement (CI) tools (pFMEA, Control Plans, 8D, 5why, Ishikawa Diagrams, A3, Kaizen etc.).
- Knowledge of statistical analysis, measurement methods & instruments for verifying specification attributes.
- Technical ability to read and understand technical drawings, specifications and requirements.
- Experience with ERP systems, preferably Oracle.
- Ability to work within a global matrix organization with strong project execution and leadership skills. Experience in leading through influence without reliance on reporting lines.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing and assembly techniques and related standards and specifications.
- Ability to obtain/maintain a Passport.
