A Government Entity is accepting applications for a Supervisory Staff Attorney position for the criminal division. Under the direction of the Judges and the Division Director, Supervisory Staff Attorneys advise the court regarding all types of Appeals and writ petitions through written memoranda or oral presentations, prepare written dispositions for the court, and supervise the work of other attorneys employed with the court. Supervisory Staff Attorneys must possess superior legal research, writing, oral presentation, editing and management skills, must be flexible, and must be capable of working independently.This position may be in Carson City or Las Vegas, Nevada, but some travel to the other location may be required.
Example of Duties:
- Reviews and edits memoranda, orders and opinions drafted by team attorneys.
- Determines the manner in which cases prepared by the team should be presented to the court: draft conference, oral presentation, or portable agenda.
- Interacts with the Division Director, team members, other Staff Attorneys, and law clerks to discuss legal issues and answer questions.
- Manages the team's caseload and productivity; tracks cases assigned to the team until they are resolved; and ensures timely completion of assignments.
- Maintains a caseload as other Staff Attorneys on the team, but in a lesser amount.
- Keeps abreast of recent developments in the assigned area of law.
- Reviews opinions drafted in chambers.
- Answers questions and completes special projects for the Judges as requested.
- Evaluates performance of team attorneys and provides input on evaluation of support staff.
- Assists the Division Director in hiring employees.
- Assists the Division Director as needed or directed on special projects or during leave.
- Attends professional development training.
- Trains new Staff Attorneys.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have graduated from an ABA-accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in Nevada. Five years of experience with the Nevada Supreme Court, Nevada Court of Appeals, or another court with a focus on research, writing, and editing is required for the position.
