Preop/PACU Supervisor - FT

Job Summary:

The Preop/ PACU Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Preanesthesia Testing (PAT), Preoperative (Preop), and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) areas within the OR department. Plans and implements the overall policies, procedures, and services of the PAT/Preop/ PACU areas. The Supervisor ensures efficient and effective operations, including quality control and compliance with regulations and policies. Supports manager with service delivery and resources and assists with hiring and training of new employees. The supervisor manages the scheduling and day-to-day performance of the subordinate staff. They ensure that staff maintain competency and a high level of performance. Builds customer loyalty among physicians, employees, and the community. Possesses requisite level of technical and professional knowledge in Nursing including exceptional leadership skills.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Direct PAT/ Preop/ PACU Teams to ensure patients’ needs are met.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other health employees in coordinating smooth processes of care and facilitating patient outcomes.
  • Ensures care is provided based on established standards of practice, policies, and protocols.
  • Ensures that patients are brought to the OR in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Demonstrates leadership by providing information as a resource nurse, mentor, and coach.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills for problem-solving and anticipating unit and patient needs.
  • Performs audits on assessments, delivery of care, and patients’ response to care in the medical record.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Ensures staff ability to function in all aspects of pre and postoperative patient care.
  • Demonstrates accountability for ongoing learning needs, completion of annual education requirements and competencies.
  • Provides support and structure to clinical informatics and coordinates initial and ongoing education.
  • Manages PAT/ Preop/ PACU Department team members including:
    • Ensures punctuality of all team members and on-time availability
    • Delivers performance and compensation reviews.
    • Manages personnel issues such as morale, absenteeism, and staff scheduling in collaboration with manager and director.
    • Acts as the primary contact for care-related physician feedback
  • Create a safe environment and tools needed to learn to perform jobs comfortably and competently.
  • Requires knowledge of Federal and State regulatory agency standards related to health care organizations.

Education/Experience/Licenses

  • Required: Associates Degree of Sciences
  • Preferred Bachelor of Sciences
  • Required: 4+ years Surgery Department Experience
  • Preferred: 2+ years leadership experience
  • Required: Current RN NM State License
  • Required: Meet all Employee Health Requirements
