UPMC Shadyside is currently hiring a Supervisor, Monitor Technician to work full-time in our growing department!
Purpose:
In addition to performing the responsibilities of the Monitor Technician, coordinates workflows, assists with projects, supports educational activities, maintains data. Provide continuous visual surveillance of numerous patient cardiac rhythm monitors and notify appropriate nursing personnel immediately of alerts indicating potential life-threatening dysrhythmias or vital signs. This position is night shift 7 pm to 7 am. 3 days per week. Weekend and holiday rotation.
Responsibilities:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
Promotes and maintains desired public, interpersonal, and interdepartmental relationships and patient confidentiality.
Performance of basic computer and keyboarding skills required to operate equipment.
Supports efficient function and cleanliness of department. Stocks supply areas and distributes inventory. Tracks and orders supplies for department and equipment services. Notifies BioMed for equipment repair needs or technical malfunction.
Maintains data and monitors dashboard indicators and quality in unit/department to meet organizational goals and develops action plans to address specific concerns and improve quality.
Participate in and oversee the process of training and development of technical and clerical personnel.
Provide input on employee performance appraisals and initiates progressive discipline when indicated.
Supervise all activities of technical personnel in support of the monitoring services and EKG?s. With support of Unit Director, Coordinator and HR, resolves and manages conflict effectively and in a timely manner.
Supports peer personnel in daily work assignments maintaining a constant awareness of the nature and volume of work and takes necessary actions to expedite monitoring and alerts.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of the physical and electronic character of the monitoring instrumentation used and must demonstrate equipment troubleshooting skills.
Provides visual surveillance of numerous cardiac monitors simultaneously while maintaining 100% accuracy in terms of alarm recognition and notification. Maintain alarms per policy. Documents notification of alerts.
- High school or equivalent.
- One year Health Care experience required.
- Cardiac experience preferred.
- Leadership experience preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
- Arrhythmia training with passing test score required within 30 days of hire.
- Cardiac Technician, Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic background desired
