Job Duties
VDOT, Bristol District, is seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused individual to serve as a Maintenance Supervisor within the Wytheville Residency's Baywood Area Headquarters.
In the position of Supervisor Maintenance, you will assist the area superintendent in planning for the maintenance program, special projects, and personnel needs.
This position will also:
Schedule, assign and evaluate work;
Monitor and estimate expenditures;
Supervise area maintenance and contract crews during both normal and emergency operations;
Lead safety meetings and train staff on appropriate safety methods and protocols;
Investigate customer inquiries and identify solutions;
Maintain work accomplishment records and project documentation.
All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of highway maintenance and construction practices and procedures.
Considerable skill in operating and maintaining light, medium, and heavy-duty equipment used in highway maintenance/construction.
Ability to plan, schedule, assign, train, and evaluate the work of others.
Ability to perform manual labor including frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. and to use hand and power tools.
Ability to read, interpret, and apply work zone safety and traffic control manuals.
Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.
Ability to work inclement weather, accidents, and emergency/disaster response, etc. during/after normal work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Valid driver's license.
Additional Considerations
Recent experience leading the work of and training others in highway maintenance operations and techniques.
Experience leading emergency operations such as snow removal, storm damage and accident clean up.
Experience using computers to maintain inventory records, analyze data, and prepare schedules and reports.
High School diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience or training may substitute for education.
Currently hold or ability to obtain a DCR Inspector Card.
