Job Summary
Supervises all activities of the coding assigned coding team. Responsible for the overall integrity of the quality of diagnosis and procedure codes assigned for medical records. Responsible for continuing education and ensuring compliance with government and coding regulations and standards. Responsible for hiring, interviewing, training, disciplining, evaluating, promoting, and terminating assigned staff. Acts as resource to Patient Financial Services and hospital departments as appropriate upon request. The supervisor shall be familiar with IP and OP coding guidelines including MS DRG, APR DRG, APCs, EAPGs, HCCs and other coding concepts that impact code assignment. They shall maintain subject matter expertise with all service lines provided to ensure accurate coding. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.
- Associates degree or bachelor’s degree in health information management or similar discipline.
- Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) with at least 5 years of coding experience and two years of supervisory experience in a tertiary level acute care hospital.
- Sufficient analytical skills to apply comprehensive coding and documentation guidelines on both a federal and state level.
