Job Status: Seasonal

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Compensation: Proposed hiring rate of $18.50+, actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.
  • Benefits: This is a seasonal position eligible for season pass for employees/dependents and privileges at several other resorts. Several discount programs (i.e. food & beverage, retail/rental, tickets, etc.) also available.

Job Summary:

Woodward Camp Coaches are responsible for developing and maintaining safe and fun learning environments for guests of all ability levels utilizing snow and barn facilities. Camp Coaches provide a safe and fun learning experience through building rapport with campers in various settings and coaching freestyle-based skiing/snowboarding to their assigned groups. Coaches are expected to ski/snowboard and instruct to the level of their assigned group. Strong communication skills, a positive attitude and very strong group management skills are required for this position. Candidates must be flexible and adapt to ever changing environments and guest needs. Previous coaching experience is required. Certification through USASA or AASI is preferred. Full time positions consist of 5 days per week, including weekends, holidays, and busy periods. Must be able to adhere to American Camp Association and Colorado State Licensing standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops a rapport with campers quickly, establishing a connection with them almost immediately. Making each camper feel special and unique will build confidence with campers and allow the camp experience to provide safety, fun, and progression.
  • Adheres to state licensing & ACA standards while supervising campers.
  • Engages the group 100% of the time, while still focusing on individual and unique camper needs.
  • Goes above and beyond expectations to have a positive impact on each camper.
  • Identifies different learning styles among campers and can effectively demonstrate different teaching styles to reflect them.
  • Models the values, philosophy, and mission of Woodward Copper.
  • Acts as a real team member, cooperating with all employees, including fellow Woodward Copper employees, supervisors, and employees from all other departments at Copper Mountain.
  • Responds quickly and effectively to a wide variety of situations including possible emergencies while maintaining composure and keeping campers and fellow employees' calm.
  • Manages personal stress levels and maintains balance between work and personal life.
  • Ensuring return of campers to identified guardian at end of camp session.
  • Assisting at lunch ensuring all campers in their assigned group have adequate meals.
  • Provides on-snow coaching to all ability levels and ages 7+, focusing on safety, fun, and learning.
  • Uses progressive teaching and coaching methods to ensure a quality and unique experience.
  • Works with participants to safely progress their skiing skills and techniques in the park and Barn.
  • Adheres to the highest safety standards while creating a safe learning environment for employees and guests.
  • Assists participants in setting reasonable daily goals.
  • Suggests improvements and makes recommendations to support the Woodward Copper experience.
  • Ability to work with a group of coaches to accomplish the Woodward Copper goals and provide a unique experience.
  • Works closely with Snow Supervisor and Operations Manager to continually provide a quality camp experience.
  • Provide feedback about the features both on the hill and in the Barn on a regular basis to ensure it works with the programming.
  • Be knowledgeable in all departmental aspects of Woodward Copper policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a positive attitude in an eight-to-ten-hour day, and on stressful high-volume days, always upholds the highest standard of professionalism.
  • Outgoing demeanor and a willingness to act as an ambassador for freestyle snowboarding, as well as a role model for kids and teens.
  • Ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to be flexible and manage fluctuating business volumes and schedule needs of camp
  • Must work various shifts and hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts may include overtime during the summer and peak volume periods as well as being asked to assist in other areas of operations including, but not limited to summer camp check in/check out, camper activities, tent activations, etc.
Administration Duties:
  • Keep record of class lists for tracking purposes.
  • Fill out end of session feedback forms for campers to take home.

Guest Service Duties:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and motivate kids, teens, and adults.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents and all Copper staff.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with Copper Mountain Inc. and Village at Copper employees, parents, public, and other members of the Copper Mountain community.

Requirements

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
  • Due to the sensitive nature of this position, a criminal background check will be conducted after position is accepted. This background check will be done in accordance with standards enacted under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Preferred Experience and Special Skills:

  • 1-4 years' of experience coaching or instructing Freestyle Snowboarding
  • 3 years' of experience working with kids and/or teens
  • Skateboarding, BMX, or Gymnastics experience preferred
  • Experience working in a Camp environment is preferred
  • Must have knowledge of tricks, progressions, and terminology
  • Certification by USASA, USSA, AASI, or equivalent experience as a coach preferred
  • Ski resort work experience a plus
  • College degree or equivalent a plus
