POSITION DESCRIPTION
AREA: Whitefish School District Nurse
Tentative Dates: June 17, 2024-July 25, 2024 (Monday-Thursday)
LOCATION: Muldown Elementary School
Whitefish School District seeks a School Nurse to join one of the leading school districts in the state of Montana. This position is temporary and contingent on ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund) funds. SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT:
Provide School Nurse services. Identifies and treats health needs among students and provides instruction in the maintenance of good health and disease prevention.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Whitefish Public Schools seeks candidates with strong character, passion for excellence and a relentless commitment to student achievement. Applicants should also meet the following requirements)::
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Registered Nurse Degree

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Registered Nurse with school or public health experience
  • CPR instructor credentials.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):
  • Evaluates the physical condition of students and refers students to appropriate resources as needed.
  • The nurse, as a member of the school health team, shares responsibility for providing the organization and leadership in the development and implementation of the school health program.
  • Provides periodic health assessments to children with exceptional health conditions, with evaluation and appropriate planning to meet individual needs.
  • Shares responsibility with other persons for monitoring the environment to ensure safety.
  • For various community groups, coordinates and instructs health-related education and wellness programs.
  • Conducts home visits as necessary.
  • Helps ensure the district meets required Federal/State medical and health related laws and provides case management for section 504 health related conditions.
  • Helps complete or facilitate the completion of all health related paperwork for each school and the district.
  • This position works independently with limited supervision.
  • Collaborates with district and school administration and faculty in formulating policies, standards and objectives of this program.
  • Serves as health consultant and resource person to teachers in health education.
  • Serves as liaison with home, school and community in all areas of health.
  • Works to develop a program of preventative health services.
  • Works to develop and coordinate programs for screening and follow-up.
  • Consults with classroom teachers concerning the health status of each child as appropriate.
  • Maintain a record of work with each child.
  • Provides direct health care to students.
  • Helps develop procedures for and participates in emergency care, first aid and administration of medication in cooperation with appropriate medical and administrative personnel.
  • Ability and skill to participate in the planning of school facilities and programs conducive to the physical and emotional health of students.
  • Interprets the philosophy and objectives of the school health program and shares responsibility with parents and school personnel for promotion, protection, maintenance and improvement of student health.
  • Participate in community planning to interpret health needs, ensuring utilization of existing resources and coordinates activities of home school and community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This type of work involves walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods of time as required by situations of job position. Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral and written information, the manual dexterity to move related equipment, and the skills necessary to handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job. May be required to lift or move up to 20 pounds. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employed for prescribed term, salary, benefits and other working conditions to be determined by District Policy, Federal and State Law as well as appropriate funding from state, federal and/or passage of levies.

Performance of said duties will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
