Position Information
This is a part-time or temporary non-benefited position.
Description & Details: The NDSU Williston Research Extension Center conducts dryland and irrigated agricultural research to improve crop health and sustainability of our food production system in northwest North Dakota. Research is conducted on crops such as spring wheat, winter wheat, durum, barley, oat, corn, chickpea, field pea, canola, sunflower, flax, safflower, sunflower, and dry bean. The Research Intern will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of the research program, primarily focused on the crop variety trials, which includes outdoor field research on small crop plots. The day-to-day activities of the position include maintaining the field plots in optimal conditions (weeding/tilling alleys), assisting with plant notes in variety trials, and maintenance of the Research Center grounds. Tasks may be specific to the individual hired and their existing skill set and capabilities. No prior experience in agriculture is required but a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard is. Responsibilities of the internship will include:
• Assisting with maintenance of agricultural research trial plots including weeding and tilling to ensure crop health and optimal experiment outcome
• Assisting with data collection on field plots (plant emergence, growth stage, pictures)
• Assist in maintaining the shop and work areas in a clean and organized condition
• Help with the annual Field Day events
• Following all safety protocols
Work Schedule: Typically Mon - Fri 8am - 5pm
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school student
• Over the age of 16
• Valid driver's license or reliable transportation to work
• Positive attitude and willingness to work hard
• Interest in agriculture, research, and outdoor work
• Ability to work a 20 hour week
Preferred Qualifications:
• Relevant work experience
• Ability to work a 40 hour week
