The mission of the Allen Institute administration team is to provide support and structure to the scientific divisions. Coinciding with the team science approach, administration helps facilitate team learning and the overall mission of the institute.
We are seeking a summer intern to join the Communications department for the summer of 2024. They will assist in the implementation and execution of the Open Science Week public campaign, including web, advertising, paid marketing, social media, and communication efforts to increase awareness.
- Help draft media advisories/press releases, pitch stories to the media
- Collaborate with social media team to write web stories, draft social content for campaigns and engage stakeholders for Instagram takeovers, etc.
- Partner with editorial, media and marketing teams to develop and project manage integrated campaign
- Learn the basics of web and social analytics
- Participate in the pre-planning of the public event
- Assist in drafting internal communications

Educational Objectives
- Gain understanding and experience working in an organization's in-house Communication department, including contributing to projects in media relations, content creation, and marketing
- Develop and hone skills in stakeholder communication, project management, and learning to be adaptable and flexible in a dynamic Communications team and environment
- Participate in regular Communications team meetings, meetings with scientific teams, and strategy discussions
- Shadow the different departments within the Communications team to gain a deeper understanding of cross-functional collaboration
- Present an overview of your internship to other interns and staff at the Allen Institute intern project poster session event
Applicant Requirements
- Must be enrolled in, or a 2024 graduate of an accredited associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree program
- Must be able to start on either June 3rd or June 17th, 2024 and commit to the full 10-week program
- Must be eligible to work in the United States for the duration of the internship
- Must be 18 years of age or older

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- Interns are expected to work 35-40 hours a week throughout the 10-week period
- This role is expected to work onsite for the majority of working hours. The primary work location for this role is 615 Westlake Ave N., with the flexibility to work remotely on a limited basis.
