The Position
This Summer Internship offers a unique opportunity in the field of computational biology, focusing on computational siRNA target validation for neurodegenerative diseases. The intern will leverage advanced computational tools and omics databases, including large-scale genetic, RNA-seq, scRNA-seq and alternative splicing data to identify potential siRNA targets and validate their therapeutic potential. The role includes a significant focus on assembling and analyzing datasets relevant to neurodegenerative disorders, contributing to the advancement of drug discovery in this critical area.
Responsibilities
- Utilize licensed databases and computational tools for identifying siRNA targets in human diseases with strong genetic components.
- Perform computational validation of identified targets using in silico models.
- Compile and analyze a comprehensive collection of datasets and computational platforms relevant to neurodegenerative disease research.
- Collaborate with research teams to understand the therapeutic potential of identified siRNA targets.
- Document findings and contribute to the preparation of comprehensive reports and presentations.
Requirements:
- Pursuing a PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or Biostatistics
- Strong programing (R or Python), database and omics data integrative analysis experience
- This position is focused entirely on computational analytics, and no wet-lab work is required
- On-site presence is necessary to facilitate and enhance collaborative efforts
Preferred:
- Experience or strong interest in computational biology, bioinformatics, or related fields
- Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and databases
- Basic understanding of molecular biology techniques
- Analytical skills, particularly in data analysis and interpretation
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Keen interest in neurodegenerative disease research and drug discovery
The hourly pay rate for this role is $25 per hour.
