SalaryA Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides assistance, support, and care to people with disabilities or individuals in need of help to lead more independent lives. DSPs play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities and promoting their inclusion in the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Personal Care:
- Assisting with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
Healthcare Support:
- Administering medication and helping with medical appointments or treatments.
Assistance with Mobility:
- Supporting individuals with physical disabilities in moving around, transferring between locations, or using mobility aids.
Behavioral Support:
- Assisting with behavioral interventions and implementing strategies to address challenging behaviors.
Social and Recreational Activities:
- Facilitating and participating in social and recreational activities to promote community engagement and a sense of belonging.
Household Management:
- Helping with household chores, meal preparation, and maintaining a clean and safe living environment.
Communication Support:
- Assisting individuals with communication challenges and promoting effective communication methods.
Advocacy:
- Acting as an advocate for individuals with disabilities, helping them access resources, services, and rights.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Keeping detailed records of the care provided, including any changes in behavior, health, or progress.
Collaboration with Healthcare Professionals:
- Working closely with healthcare professionals, therapists, and other support services to ensure a comprehensive approach to care.
Training and Education:
- Providing education and training to individuals with disabilities to enhance their independence and life skills.
Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalency diploma required. A valid New York State Driver’s License with 2 years of driving experience is preferred, must be comfortable operating a large vehicle. Experience working with adults with intellectual/developmental or other behavioral health disabilities preferred.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $17.91 - $18.16 per hour
Expected hours: 1 – 40 per week
