Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting for a Summer Intern position in the In Silico Discovery Group located in La Jolla, CA.
Job Description
The goals of this internship program are to provide undergraduate and graduate students experience in working in a large pharmaceutical R&D setting and to gain a basic understanding of the science and process of novel drug development. As a Summer Intern in the Department of In Silico Discovery, you will be a member of a team dedicated to the research and development of new therapeutics. The selected candidate will be assigned a manager/mentor and will get an opportunity to work with RNA therapeutic, IT, and Data Management teams. The Summer Intern will have their own project developed jointly with the manager/mentor and will be expected to present the results of the work to the project teams, and as a poster/abstract at the research symposium at the end of the internship.
The intern will have the opportunity to learn new aspects of how chemists design and implement their experiments and collect the related data in a R&D database. Students will receive training on data collection curation, as well as receive mentorship on how to troubleshoot issues relative to their summer project.
Intern positions are full-time opportunities expecting to last 3 months (May 20, 2024 - August 16, 2024). We work on a "hybrid model". This means that you will be asked to report on site at least 3 times a week and remotely not more than 2 times a week. If you are selected for an internship position, you will work directly with your manager as your start date approaches to confirm your exact schedule.

- Find and extract data from current database.
- Collect missing information, including using internal tool to create chemical structure file following established protocol.
- Find and fix any issues with the data.
- Participating in department and team meetings.
- Participating in cross-functional team meetings.
- Data collection and recording keeping.
- Abstract/ poster preparation and presentation at organization-wide research symposium.
- Other projects as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Have US work authorization for the duration of this internship.
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, which is reflective of all college coursework.
- Be currently enrolled and pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's degree. By start date, must be considered an undergraduate sophomore or above.
- Masters students must have earned undergraduate degree after May 2023.
- Ability to work full time (40 hours a week) for the whole term. Planned dates of May 20, 2024, through August 16, 2024.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in teams.
- Working knowledge and/or experience using Microsoft suite of business tools including but not limited to Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, Word, Teams, SharePoint, OneNote, SQL and Python language is a plus.
- Preferred fields include but are not limited to Chemistry, Biochemistry, Information Management, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering / Development, Data Science.
- Background in organic chemistry is a plus.
- Detail-oriented with good organizational skills.
- Have a passion for a career in data science and information technology.
- Great interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and presentation skills.
- Enthusiastic, collaborative, able to build relationships and work within global matrixed and cross-functional teams.
