Summary/Objective:
This position is full-time for Summer 2024.
The Field Operations Intern will assist with the supervision of all construction activities on the project site in accordance with the contract documents and Callahan’s procedures. The Field Operations Intern will work closely with the Assistant Superintendent and will represent Callahan Construction Managers throughout the full project cycle. All Callahan employees are required to be respectful and professional in their day-to-day work and to be ethical in all practices.
As a Field Operations Intern , you will report to the job site daily and gain hands-on experience to further enhance your classroom education. Callahan has a variety of projects in various phases, each with its own unique learning opportunities. Our Intern are an integral part of the Callahan team and add tremendous value to each project. Common duties you may be tasked with as a Field Operations Intern are:
- Foundations, Sitework, & Structure
- Assist with: layout, early shop drawing review/coordination, logistics and phase planning, concrete takeoffs, tracking progress
- MEP Rough
- Assist with: coordination, early shop drawing review, logistics and phase planning, tracking progress, confirming layout, confirming rough-ins
- Façade
- Assist with: confirming submittals, tracking progress, QA/QC inspections, 3rd party close out reports
- Finishes/Punchlist
- Assist with: quality control inspections, creating/managing punchlists
- Additional potential tasks
- Manpower/daily reports, logistics/deliveries, precon/orientation meeting, mockup process, safety walks, general administrative project support
Essential Functions:
- Aid Assistant Superintendent and Assistant Project Manager with daily and weekly tasks including: daily reports, safety walks, quantity reports, and weekly schedule updates
- Assist in documenting the planning and scheduling of construction operations
- Coordinate the production and updating of required schedule networks and printouts
- Attend project meetings and record meeting minutes
- Comply with health and safety laws to create and maintain a safe workplace
- Help administer project safety program to maintain a safe and healthy work environment
- Assist in interpreting contract drawings
- Provide general administrative support to projects
Competency:
- Physically lift up to 50 lbs.
- Endurance and ability to visit entire job site, including stairs or other elevated structures
- Exceptional interpersonal communication, presentation, and writing skills
- Well organized, team player, professional and energetic
Required education and experience:
- High School Diploma required; pursuing a bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or relevant field strongly preferred
- Internships or prior work experience in construction setting preferred
- Demonstrated interest in construction management and the construction industry
- Knowledge of advanced functions of Word, Excel, Outlook and Web-based Applications
Additional eligibility qualifications:
- Must be able to travel to the jobsite(s) as assigned
